Announcing the RED DSMC2 PRODUCTION MODULE

So, last week I bought the Sound Devices MixPre-3. (https://www.sounddevices.com/products/recorders/mixpre-3) The preamps are CRAZY good! Now I just need to figure out the best way to make an option that is possibly mountable to my RED setup with a quick release.

Obviously, this is kinda big. But imagine having Sound Devices Kashmir preamps in a really small A-box size setup. That would be dope.

We will begin shipping the PRODUCTION MODULE today with orders for the PRODUCTION MODULE KIT shipping in a few weeks.

NOTE, the PRODUCTION MODULE is supported in firmware versions 7.2.x and up. We have pushed live BETA firmware v7.2.0b3 to public beta today on RED.com. Please use that firmware to enable support for the PRODUCTION MODULE until v7.2.x is posted as RELEASE firmware in the coming weeks.

They are now shipping...ours arrived today.
First reactions:
despite its size its light weight, which is good. The addition of a separate SDI feed for client and operator is great, and of course the long overdue audio upgrade. Let the testing begin. I was worried it would be too big, but I think its the perfect size for the DSMC2 body.

Ah, that is true seduction Greg. I suspect that is going to work well for me. I need to hold off on purchasing for a moment, but I think I'm swapping out my REDVOLT Module for the Production Module for sure. Tidy and tiny has been a reoccurring them all last month through now. The new module clearly shaves off some length from builds.

With an AB version of this coming soon, I'm still curious as to why there's never been an AB version of the IO expander.

The v mount IO expander is $1900, but to have that same setup for gold mount, you have to go with the base expander ($1750) plus the AB battery module ($795).
That's $645 more just to run on gold mount batteries, plus a slight addition to size/weight by having two modules.

Does anyone know if this will ever be a thing, or if not, why?

The gold mount production kit looks pretty sweet, has anyone used the audio much with high quality boom mics? Also is the ptap on the top blocked by the top plate, or is still accessible with the top plate on(i have a bunch of ptap stuff and the production top plate looks longer then the standard one - i really like it longer to)?
