  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing Scarlet-W

Thanks Phil

Much appreciated.

I feel that it should be specific to each OLPF since they remap clipping, noise, color response etc.

I shoot STH at 320 and LLO at 800.

You are right, anything that adjust the light input in front of the sensor should be adjusted for. But technically that wasn't the question, the question was about the Dragon Sensor, which remains the same.

You know, I always thought that when the Weapon cameras came out it'd make a lot of sense to just pick up an MX or Dragon once prices fell and even though I will most likely end up doing that, the Weapon series most certainly gives me pause particularly on two points. First, lower compression overall and, secondly, auto black shading. Whatever helps me to work more easily is much more valuable than basic cost value. The guys at RED absolutely deserve a lot of praise for making this happen with the RAVEN and SCARLET-W and whatever my first RED camera ends up being, I'm eagerly looking forward to whatever advancements come next for RED cameras! Bravo guys, bravo!

Thanks for the kind words man.. and excited to welcome you to the family.

Royal flush. Red again has lifted the bar. I think this is the best camera lineup, hands down. Killer price points, sensor unity across the board. Nothing laggard. 2016 has been year for the Red community. Prores, 8k, highend, lowend, new body style, less weight and the list goes on. Wow!!

Bravo Jarred and Red Team , this is a BOMB i m happy for you:party:

Thats the prototype pic, the release has a p-tap on the top.
I love it and it does give you the option to go XL's or V mount at the twist of a hex.
I have to say I do want to check out how much smaller the camera footprint can get with the new pice of hardware.

48 fps is still 2 frames to low! But I dont know anyway wich red camera will be my next. But i know it will never be 48fps so something higher up. Not sure about the 8k just yet. I kind of like s35. Bought the sony a7r ii to test the feel of full frame but im always enjoying the epic much more.

Okay, I'm back at the hut and can get more excited about this.

I updated this chart and feel there's one specific thing that needs to be pointed out regarding Raven 4.5K, Scarlet-W 5K, Weapon 6K MG, Weapon CF/Forged 6K, and Weapon CF/Forged 8K:

Despite there being different format sizes, maximum captured resolutions, and frame rates ALL of the DSMC2 cameras have one important thing in common.

They are all using the latest and greatest improvements that DSMC2 has brought to the Dragon Sensor Technology.

That is an utterly complete camera lineup that I don't think I've ever seen done before by any company.

Scarlet Weapon??

Scarlet Weapon??

Just trying to strategize my next move from my Scarlet Dragon. Since Scarlet-W is not a Scarlet Weapon, will there ever be an official Scarlet Weapon with better specs than Scarlet-W? Maybe 6k 24fps or something like 5k 150fps? At this point Im trying to make the right moves before spending. My ultimate goal was Epic Dragon for 6k and higher frame rates and I would be satisfied for a while but now I'm just lost and unsure on what's next lol. I know RED is full of surprises which has been great but i can't help but think there is more in store before NAB. Regardless, I can't complain, having any options are better than none at all.

I'm sure there will be another Scarlet down the road, but that road is way aways, specially since I just pulled the release of this Scarlet-W 6 months ahead of when it was supposed to launch :)
