IMO, Epic-D is a solid two steps above and the limited once in a life-time deal costed less
$9,950 Scar-D to Epic-D trade-in
for 6K(9 times 2K) @ 4:1 (up to 200MB/s)
vs
$11,700 Scar-W + Base I/O
for 5K(6.25 times 2K) @ 4:1 (up to 140MB/s)
(Scar-W requires an expander)
Scar-W is roughly 30% less resolution and 30% more compression then Epic-D
Sure Scar-W has nice ergo features and approximately half a stop more DR
However, for overcrank potential, Scar-W is drastically reduced (and chopped in half at 5K)
Epic-D 100fps@6KWS (120fps@5KWS)
vs
Scar-W 60fps@5KWS
That's really subjective and depends on your work. Tons of movies were and are still shot @5k 5:1. If it's enough for Hollywood, it's enough for many of us. Scarlet-W can do that. Slowmo @4.5k on scarlet-W has the same framerates and compression as Epic Dragon @5k. Just a 0.5k difference for those specific shots. Let's not forget all the Red One MX movies shot @4k and 4.5k WS (which was 4480 pixels large vs 4608 on Dragon cameras). So we can shoot high frame rates at a better resolution than pirates of the carribeans, social network or any features back then. Plus when I see the amount of data I get just shooting 5k 7:1 I can't imagine shooting anything @6k, it would be too heavy and slow. The Epic Dragon is a great camera but overkill for almost everyone. I think all the new W features are worth it, probably more than crazy resolution, for the majority of users. It's small, light, you can use an iphone to change the settings wirelessly, it has an improved image, etc.
