  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Angenieux EZ lenses

Since Io have my Chinese New Year holiday's in Hong Kong, will going to upload some of snap shot from Redcine-X Pro with wide open shots after I head back to Beijing new week,
personally, I love this compact zoom lens, and to change from s35 to FF is quite easy, only took few mins..
Perry Ho, was that wide open? Thanks.

There are gonna have about 200pcs of EZ-1 will be send to clients 2017, and around June, the EZ-2 will star send to the clients,
I'd order both of them, great and competitive cost for film makers...
Do you mean theres a wait list until 2018?

yea theres almost no footage from these lenses yet.

I played with the lens today at cabsat here in Dubai.

Thoughts :

very well made
extremely easy to change mount
not heavy but also not super light, similar to the original short dp line.
could only really test the longer lens as the wide one had an issue (demo model they said)
minimal breathing, a bit on the wider end,
nice round bokeh wide open.
clean feel to the lens, sharp but not aggressive.
colour was a bit crap at the event so could not really comment.
Covers 8k with the s35 long
covers 8k at about 18m on the wide
i did not notice any drop off as i zoomed, seemed to hold the t2 stop

Overall I was impressed, very versatile, will need a big gimbal to carry it but nothing suggested it was of any less quality than the other optimos. 15-90 in two lens at t2, very rare I think

Cheers
Ian

Yes I think the big question is does it look like an optimo

I just watched the video, and to my eyes the imagery produced by the Angenieux EZ lenses looks like imagery produced by high quality primes, yet they're only zoom lenses.

Hmm... after watching the sample video I'm not so sure.

Numbers-wise, the lenses seem to hit all the right specs. But that sample footage looks pretty underwhelming - the actual Optimos look good, but the EZ-2 looks very dull. With rather unappealing distortion at the wide-end.

Hi Mark, I went to a rental house demo of the EZ-1 where we got to see the optics swap process and look at charts with both Full Frame and S35 configs. The lenses are sharper and less distorted when set up for Full Frame. The sales rep confirmed that the lenses were designed for Full Frame, and the S35 is a compromise that some may want to use for the extra stop. But if one cares about IQ, then Full Frame is the way to go. So perhaps the EZ-2 is the same?

Interesting, thanks Sat.

Had the optimo style, (30-90) really loved that glass...it was stollen (from a rental shop in hollywood) and now I replacing with the EZ1 which I should have
in my hands this week. They seem amazing on paper like previous poster said , very flexible and adaptable...I just hope the angie look is transferred cause the optimo style certainly had the magic. Something creamy and dreamy and naturally sharp....not sure if I see that same thing in the EZ1s. Find out soon enough. Best- C

Mine finally arrived. I'll post some test r3ds and some first impressions next week.

Hey Dan - Just the EZ 1. I dont think the EZ 2 has started shipping yet.

Uploaded some R3D's from a quick test I shot in the studio. All at 30-90mm S35 coverage on a Weapon MG.

Also threw in a few frames from the Fuji Cabrio 19-90mm for comparison. So far very pleased with the overall build quality and feel. I'll have to take it out on a few real shoots before I have definitive verdict.
