  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Angenieux EZ lenses

T/Stop markings and focal lenghts on old zooms lie a lot. Old 25-250mm from at least two manufacturers are closer to be 30-300mm lenses and two-thirds to one stop slower than advertised, specially on the long end of the zoom. An Ultra Prime and a waveform monitor is very useful to test this issue.

If the discrepancy is less than 1/3 stop, I’d attribute the margin of error to sample variation or other instrumental flaws, and I’d give them the benefit of the doubt.

But if the lens is closer to 1-stop darker than advertised, I’d call it flat out cheating. You can tell the f-stop is obviously not right just by looking at the iris. For a company as knowledgeable as Angenieux, there is no way they are unaware of it.

If it is a t/2.6 lens, please just say so, and we will make a fair purchase decision.

The worse thing is, for those of us who like to set exposeure by light meter, we could be underexposing by close to 1 stop, which is a lot.

Hi Everyone,
I'm seriously considering buying a set of Zeiss CZ but I can't help myself thinking about the EZ2 22-60mm FF.
I need a lens which covers 8K VV but I also shoot a lot of slow motion in cropped format (6 to 5k) and the S35 swap could also be a plus...
Right now as I mentioned in a previous thread I need a really compact zoom which satisfy most of the DPs and directors...
Any feedback on shooting with those lenses and Monstro 8K? Any difference with using this or the S35 conversion?
I've read a few things about shooters complaining they don't get the Angie look or they have too much CA but so far, I haven't seen that much footage with that lens...

I honestly love these lenses.

They aren’t that small if you have been using DSLR zooms.

They’re sorta light, long and slender.

They have a fantastic look IMO.

You would not be missing out choosing these over another zoom.

Although I’m not using them in FF mode.

If I use on monstro I’m using a Tokina expander - cheaper versatile option and faster to swap in and out.

I’m going to upgrade to a pair of Duclos expanders which are extremely high image quality and kinda more expensive but so versatile... they work with a LOT of Primes.

Most of the work I’ve done with the Angenieux was for corporate (tech) clients.

I’ll see if I can send out some non-secret stills.

Interesting to compare to the Sigma 18-35 PL - which I like a LOT.

Personal opinion : the Zeiss zooms have a little more CA. I’ve never used their 18-30 yet , but the 70-200 yes.

Many thanks Dan, really appreciate your feedback, I’m more and more interested by those EZ2 lenses.
