  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Allstar Shoulder -RED handheld rig

I love ET as a company, but their "pro pricing" is more than I can bear now.

WHen things were good it was cool to pay $375 to hold my battery, or $500 to hold my hard drive, but now... I need things to "work" even though they may not work perfectly. Cost matters. While I have not been hit full on with the economy, I expect too for the first few months of '09. So am being very careful.

But when I can afford "the best" I go ET.

Nice...

Allstar this is far more than I expected.

I just bought one and am really looking forward to using it - hand held has been difficult thus far.

Thanks

Rob

They key of my lightweight RED1 handheld kit is very light and also for available light fast lens.

The shoulder mount does look good, but..

..you'll find your rig is a lot lighter if you buy a battery belt clip (remove battery) and a long drive cable (remove the drive), and replace the bars with a single six inch (in my case) aluminium rod (free from scrap yard), for the single handle I use.
This doesn't affect the balance of the camera using a lense like the 18-50mm zoom, and removing the battery and drive means you lose the Red cradle also.
Actually, mounting the battery and drive on the opposite side of your body, possibly on other shoulder using a sadle or adapted coat, might help balance the stress on your spine etc Its generally best to distribute weight evenly to avoid back trouble (something encouraged during my nurse training)

Is the Red top handle extension really needed, looks like extra weight to me? :weight_lift: :)

It is liberating shedding extra weight off the Red. The absolute BEST thing is the Action product Raid mount. I keep banging on about it but it really is very good - very lightweight, excellent design, unobtrusive, well made and economical. It can also be used to mount other stuff such as a wireless mcircophone as well again with minimal weight.

Allstar,

great.

I'll do it the same.

That looks like a nice set up, and comfy!

Shoulder angle

Shoulder angle

This has probably been mentioned somewhere before, but what if you have broad shoulders? I'd love to get this, but I don't think the angled dovetail on the shoulder mount would make it level for me, as my shoulders actually go far enough out to make a camera level on my shoulders without a compensating angle. Are there options on the angled piece, or is that angle adjustable?

As I promised that's me below at the mirror with my R1 hand-held run & gun rig that includes ALLSTAR's dovetail, shoulder pad and rod clamper.

Sanjin,

Wow, I thought you looked like Orson Welles after such a long time with your old avatar :-) but this what you look like for real, the most famous, controversial and unique poster on Reduser. Seriously now, that set up looks a bit front heavy, most of the weight seems to be in front of your shoulders, is that so?

Yo Sanjin,

Your viewfinder's not plugged in mate...

Rudi and Stephen,

of course that ALLSTAR dovetail I can slide back and forth to get camera a bit back on my shoulders.

The next photo session will be with that "correction" included.

Now one more photo in colo(u)r where I wanted to get a "serious look" :).

Btw, I "shot myself" :) in the mirror on Canon 40D with remote control.

Sorry!!!

But:

Stay tuned.

ALLSTAR,,

thanks.

I have it on one handle but with another one have a problem to get out the old screw.

And I'll fix it in the next days.

One of my RED wingnut screw was broken ,too. Take off the small allen screw on the top of wingnut, then you can take the wingnut off and see a 4mm allen screw, turn it with screw driver or clamp.
That is why I give two new 4mm wingnut screws for people.
