  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Allstar Shoulder -RED handheld rig

Hi,guys,
All of new products were done. including:arri dovetail for shoulder pad, longer dovetail for shoulder pad, Allstar handle, extra handle stick for RED and Allstar handle, super light 19mm aluminum rod. I`ll post photos and start to sell them in this week, thanks for you patience.

Yes.. Bring it on...

So the final word was that the shoulder pad and allstar dovetail both work with the 1030 head? If so, this is a great way of quickly swapping between handheld and sticks.

The price is perfect for you but the products aren't really comparable. The Mantis is completely adjustable to the operator and its quality is far superior to anything else out there. (I am not saying AllStar lacks quality or produces inferior products.)

I would say apart from hand holding the matte box or the Mantis, there isn't a hand held solution out there worth its cost.

If you're not doing a lot of hand held (and won't be), the Mantis is probably too much as far as cost. But once you use it (provided you like handled hand held) you will not go back to any other way.

Shawn have you had a chance to A/B these 2 products? I'm really interested to see what someone thinks who has tried both.

Shawn, for the price of a dovetail+mantis, you're almost to the cost of a nice Easyrig 3 Cinema. Now I've never used the Mantis, but i tested the EasyRig 3 with a fully loaded Red and it was awesome, took the weight off my shoulders, I felt like i could operate without break for quite some time.

So, given how much Mantis costs, why not go for Easyrig for hand-held?

EasyRig 3, Mantis, etc... I'm sure all are pretty good hand-held systems for RED1.

But Allstar shoulder pad, Allstar longer dovetail for shoulder pad, Allstar handle mount with RED handles,
Long Valley Equipment's Lightweight Rod Support for RED1, View Factor's Origo Record stop/start button,
Vocas Lightweight 4x4 2 stage matte box, Rode NTG-3 mic, Avid/M-Audio MicroTrack II are altogether
ultimate lightweight and the most efficient price/performance rig for RED1 hand-held.

Weigth around 10kg (22lbs).

You cannot get lighter A/V hand-held configuration on RED1 than this
(also means that you have to deal with lightweight still photo or cine S35mm zooms).

No jokes like working with 3K or 2K solutions, all should be 4K acquisition except for 120fps if you needed.

Why not the series 2?

It can easily fit the most used RED ONE weight configurations.

Brilliant idea...

Thanks for the video Sanjin

Hi Sanjin, wow,you have got the plate, I haven`t told you yet:tongue:
Thanks for the video, it looks a great hand-held systems for heavy camera, if I am going to pay $2000+ for HH system, I`ll choose EasyRig, not Arri system.

Hi Allstar,

thanks for the plate,

it's working well and is already on the road...

I was lucky enough to spend 3 days in the company of Johan "Easyrig" Hellsten himself a week or so ago at a trade event here in the UK, an amazing fellow, very pasionate about his product and has a few things up his sleeve.

I had my Red there at the show and gave him it to have a go with the 700N Cinema 3 we had there, it was perfect, we had a heavy set up and it handled it beautifully. (Photos from the event are going on the website soon i think).

There is an extended handle clip coming out soon which gives the clip a little bit more room to clear the top handle on the Red. Which is great . . . . i used a rig on a Drag Amy Winehouse Advert i did three weeks ago and loved it.

On another note, I am lucky enough to be given the first one of a limited edition 'Red' Easyrig Cinema 3's which has a yes you guessed it a Red arm - its for shows and events only, i dont think Johan is going into full production on a red armed one but you never know . . . . . Pics will be coming soon.

Andrew.
