  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How long does the battery last? Can we power the camera out of the box, without the battery and the charger?
 
Many thanks to Jim and the rest of the red team, this all looks great and the allowance is a very generous way for you to thank those who have supported the project. Suddenly it all looks more real... suddenly I start brushing off the cobwebs from my wallet :)

Actually, similar chargers for IDX batteries cost even more than the Red charger. Again, welcome to the professional equipment world.

But make no mistake: Red truly is slashing prices down, as far as I can see...

Again? If you're not kidding, the short answer is: no :) Why would you buy a portable (ENG/EFP) camera to hook it to a power outlet anyway?
 
Can we use the Nikkor 35mm Photo Mount without the B4 mount? And can we use it in all formats?

Arkham ... I just thought it'd be nice to have a product that worked out of the box ... without spending thousands of dollars more. Don't be mean.
 
wow...great job RED team...nice allowance! I truely understand the pricing structure and it exceeds expectations...just an FYI...the base camera price does not mention REDCODE software, this is included, correct..

I was a bit fearful that pricing comparisons would be made to prosumer camera systems rather than professional systems. For example, the very best EVF on the market is the Accuscene. It sells for $10-11K. Ours is superior and sells for $2950. Our battery system is significantly cheaper than the major competition.

We really have done our best to develop and price our system under the market in every aspect.

I'm happy that the LCD is larger but disappointed by this kind of getting snuck under the radar & that I will be spending more on the base package then expected.

I think the implied question was: Could one power the camera directly from some external power supply?

Wow ... I'm asking about the battery/charger thing because I'd be a little upset that we can't use the camera without buying thousands of dollars worth of stuff. I thought maybe we could plug in the camera without the charger ... straight into a wall or something.

Sorry if I sounded a little too ironic... It's just that I'm somewhat surprised to hear certain expectations... that are a little "unrealistic" when we're talking about professional equipment. You know: batteries and chargers (as well as viewfinders, lenses and even... cables!!) are "mandatory-options" on pretty much any professional camera package I've ever seen ;)

And, again, let me repeat the prices I've seen really defines a new meaning for the term "Bargain" in the professional video equipment world! Try to find an equivalently priced double IDX-charger and batteries somewhere else...

I'm truly delighted by those prices! Sounds like we will be able to get an entire package for about 25000 $ after all! It's much less than I expected...
