  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

To balance any disappointment at any of these (imho amazing) prices, just consider that the allowance could have been $500, or whatever. I've been mentally preparing myself for huge price changes, or spec changes, or delivery date changes. Seeing footage, products, and workflow at NAB is still a huge part of assessing everything, but I'm amazed that this is becoming a reality.
 
bluestar, Jim said again yesterday that all the reserved REDs should be shipped by Sept. or Oct.
 
Although everyone is entitled to their own feelings about the pricing structure, everyone needs to understand that 'ballpark' pricing for a RED package is still close to what has been suggested throughout development. The EVF under 3k fits with where RED is going.

At a later stage I'm hoping to see a more detailed pricelist for cage elements etc. I'm probably going for something in between the base kit and the premium production kit. Double handgrips on 15mm rods (extended for mounting FF and mattebox). Maybe the top handle, but not all the side-handles. Something like this.

Maybe RED can put together an in-between kit, because I don't think I'm alone in this.

But other than that... great stuff!

Hey Barend you are not alone. I definitely want to build a system somewhere inbetween. Especially with 2 grips. I remember reading a while ago that the evf was going to be rather heavy because of the glass elements and I wouldn't want it to throw off the balance for a one handed grip system. I could be wrong though.
 
Since RED has verified that the accessories will be available on an a la carte basis, you can custom-build your kit exactly as you want/need.
 
Yeah, I know everthing will be available separately. I'm just wondering about the price difference between buying the kit and buying each component separately. Like how much an individual handgrip will cost by itself versus the percentage of the kit cost it takes up.
 
I'm curious why the pricing structure was offered before NAB. I have a feeling if it was introduced right after the kick ass drag racing footage, there would be no grumbling. It's tough to speak when you're in a daze and drooling.

RED just wanted to give the competition a heads up before they get their ass kicked.
 
Oh man! I haven't seen that movie in years. There was tons of cheers and laughter in the theater after that kick. Uh uo. Am I telling my age?

Out of curiosity, this does not seem to include the $1,000 deposit we made for the reservation, realistically making the allowance $1,500 instead of $2,500.

My question is, is our refundable deposit subtracted off of our total? I had expected the Red One to cost me $16,500, since I had already paid $1,000 of it. Meaning Jim's above equation would be $20,500 instead of $21,500.

I'm very happy with the released price specs, but just confused on this issue. Thanks so much.

Yes. Your deposit goes toward any costs, on top of the allowance.
 
The $1000 is a downpayment. We would pay $21500 total which will be made up of the downpayment + an additional $20500.
