  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

All the bad news...

also can you please tell us when will there will be world peace?

My guess is: About the time the Sun becomes a Red Giant.

When the Epic-X reaches production quantities, will all the baseline accessories be in lock step?

Where do these electronic components that are hard to find for Epic-X come from for Epic-M? Seems these keep pumping out, but all we hear are further delays on the Epic-X because of supply issues. and why can't these components be used in the Epic-X line up? Seems weird.

Colin....have you read any of these posts ? Not to sound harsh, but you are dropping in with no research--right here or on Jannard's posts....parts are being bought up in small quantities by RED and other companies at huge premiums. RED is not the only company seeking these few parts that are out there...so the bidding wars are likely at an all time high. Imagine you want the latest ferarri at list price from the dealer--and well, the only make 35 a year....think your going to get it at Ferarri's list price today? Not at all....you'll pay an extra $100k or more...but you can get on the 3 year waiting list at a dealer with a $50k deposit and you might get one in 3 years.....Same holds true with all gadgets in short supply......not so weird now. But just read some posts here to get the info....

Unfortunately I have been on a list like others for the last 16 months. I have every right to ask the question since I do have cash tied up in this. I am certainly not going to stop asking the question. Last I heard this was a public forum, and we were allowed to ask questions. If it would cost me an extra 2-4-6 grand to expedite this I would.

geez, what a hostile place this is these days...

One: we can't assume these parts are all electronic. There are adhesives, rubber, glass, and more that make up a camera.
Two: hostility seems ever present on any Internet forum these days.
Three:Do you mean to say you have had a deposit for Epic X in 16 months ago? If you want to sell your deposit, I will buy it from you plus 1000 dollars. That is 20% interest. Better than any bank will give you, even in a CD. I'd rather have 5000 invested in an epic deposit than in the bank or the stock market because it is a tool I know I can use.

This is meant as a friendly post, waiting sucks, and if you have jobs that need Epic capabilities They should be easy to rent, and you should bill the client appropriately to make your markup.

Cheers!

Thanks Dan,

I appreciate the offer, but no thank you :-). I believe it is a very valid question I have. If parts are available for Epic-M then could they be made available for the current lineof Epic-X that are almost ready to go. I understand the price would change, but even it it fell somewhere right in the middle between the Epic-M cost and the Epic-x cost, the increase in price would be understandable.

Cheers
Colin

No one wants a price increase in EPIC-X. The price increase for putting together cameras from higher priced parts is EPIC-M.

I don't want to have to explain every detail of why this works the way it does, but I will say that we have thousands of orders for EPIC-X that we wish we could ship and a couple of hundred orders for EPIC-Ms. The math says we have no reason to hold back EPIC-X.

Maybe you should try to do this yourself rather than guess all that is involved in a program like this?

Jim

Are you guys still having trouble finding parts? Maybe the RedUser army could help execute the process so we can get some cameras in the pipes ; ) I'll personally call everyone on the planet to help! Free sweat equity!!

This is a perfect example why we should go dark.

Jim

really? free sweat equity in a modular community? I'd be more than happy to help in any and all ways possible as I'm sure many would..

EPIC X

EPIC X

Hi,

This discussion is becoming very repeatative...we all know we will get the EPIC-X when they are READY...ie when you receive the mail from RED.....so we have to wait instead of getting frustrated...

Harcharan

I really appreciate all that red is. Don't chage anything. I love the image quality, and I really feel safe with the product just because of this openess here at reduser. You are doing a awesome job and there are A LOT of people that love your product and the attitude.

Jim and his team are without doubt the most talented and passionated camera-designers of the world. Don't you think they are trying everything possible (we even can't imagine) to get the needed parts? ;-) I'm sure, they have the best people working very hard on this, they know what they have to do.

Just have faith. There is nothing we can do.

Im also the in the waiting list for EPIC-X...and as soon as i heard Jim's news about the delay and the reason, i never ask a single question and keep waiting in line just like all others. My RED is still keeping me busy all the time...i hardly had the time to think of when EPIC-X is going to be released. It only cross my mind when people asked me that question.

Be cool and relax

PS. Jim, dont let couple of individuals ruined the way you do things. Remember there're lots out there who understand and patiently waiting. It's alright...It's also good to see and learn how the EPIC-M owner utilized their EPIC while waiting

Red's had my cash a year now and I'm not complaining. When she's ready she'll show up on my doorstep. I got the best minds in the camera business working day and night to put an Epic X in my hands ASAP.

Ok, I apologize for offering to help. RED also has boatloads of products that all have a multitude of details that need to be taken care of I'm certain... I guess I should keep my unity consciousness in check with regards to business stuffs.. Catch y'all on the flip side ;-)

At least once Stage 4 Epics are selling it will close a chapter in the History of RED and the Company can re-evaluate it's marketing strategy. I think at that point things will be much more predictable and innovation should slow down.

Jim - going dark now would only cause a lot more questions, second-guessing and false rumors to float around. I strongly believe your openness (within limits, of course) is a very positive asset for RED as a company.
