As you know, "Book of Eli" has started shooting in New Mexico starring Denzel Washington, Mila Kunis, and Gary Oldman. It is directed by Albert and Allen Hughes. Don Burgess is the cinematographer.

"We did a side by side test with a RED camera and an Arri 435 at the locations where the movie was to be shot. After processing and D.I., we did a film out and presented both sets of images to the producers. All picked the "shot on film" images on the right as the best ones. They were half right. It was the best footage, but the footage on the right was shot on RED, not film. Both Don Burgess and I were shocked that RED handled the actresses' skin better than film. It had a creamy quality, more of an old style trick that dp's used to use when they put pantie hose on the back of lenses. We are now one week into shooting and we couldn't be happier with the look we are getting." Albert Hughes.

Congrats Jim (though you had to know this would happen sooner or later),

So...having reached this tier, this place of recognition by the "powers that be", are there any regrets? Things you may have done differently concerning the RED ONE program.

Congrats Jim.

Allen Hughes and Don Burgess should tell us about their workflow and "secrets" with RED1 as soon as they can.

....inevitable :)

I'm excited for this film, it sounds great. And I'm so happy to hear that the Red is breaking new ground all the time.

A first for digital acquisition (without the common skin-tone detection algorithms engaged to counter artificial sharpening.) Congratulations on the kudos.

I guess that slightly soft OLPF is paying off now. :)

wow! congrats Jim, that's a really nice review!

Very cool...

As someone who used to add a Fogal stocking between the camera body and lens to soften faces and make them appear more filmic, I really appreciate not having to do that with RED.

It's pretty cool seeing new users of RED discover what those of us who have been using the camera for a long time have been saying about it all along.

The camera rocks...

Awesome to know. Hope this enlarges the RED market. I've heard many complaints about RED rental being slow in the US by oversaturation, but i always thought this was just a temporary thing, as there are so many productions that could be shot on RED and still are not, just because of the slowness of the industry to evolve.
Guess in the long term lowering rental rates will prove to have been a bad choice, i'm sure RED demand will go up strongly when the critical change will happen.
That's why i think going into debt for buying RED is a bad idea, as someone else said, debt makes you sell like there's no tomorrow ... :-)
