Panavision UK has been renting Reds (including ours) for a few months now - I gather the US operation is in the process of going Red now too. The cameras have the P+S Technik Interchangeable Mount System so they can take can PV or PL mount lenses (FWIW Red material shot with Panavision anamorphics is fairly awesome, spherical Primos look amazing too...a great combination IMHO).

I think that will bring a smile to Sanjin's face.
It would be interesting to know if the camera's that they are using for Eli have the P&S mount. It would certainly be ironic if Jim is down in New Mexico helping support camera's with a banned mount.
Tom.

Im with you on that... it's probably not on alot of people's "best of" list but im glad someone else can understand my appreciation.

What I always liked about them was; I heard they shot menace on video and cut together a demo film to get the deal to shoot the film we saw ;)

story counts and menace was a great story....

Congrats on all the great news Red. Itʻs great to read about, you folks deserve it. Mahalo Nui.

David,

thanks for the info.

Mods just "deleted" my post about possibility to "Panavise" my RED1 that has already IMS for RED1.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Panavision end up with a couple of early Reds (under the 1000 serial #) when they acquired another Rental Company a little more than a year or more ago. I am sorry that I forgot the name of the company but it I can't remember for the life of me. It was a big deal here on Red User and elsewhere. I would appreciate the clarification. My point is that they did not just get in the game, but they have obviously upped their ownership, commitment to third party development and public profile.

On topic though, "M II S" gets all the pub (as it it should), but I really got into "Dead Presidents" and "American Pimp"! Which reminds me to get "From Hell" and watch it again...

I believe you are referring to "Plus 8 Video" in Burbank, which was acquired by Panavision a while back.

Thats cool...so how can I (or Panavision) get PV glass on a RED without voiding the warranty? How bout opening it up for everyone?

Hi,

As PV has a larger FFD than PL, it's fairly easy to do, very like the BNCR mount. I doubt PV would be very worried about warranties one way or another, they make their money renting glass, lights and accessories.

Yeh kinda like the movie "australia" alot of people who lived in that time love the movie. Others found that it dragged on. Ausies like it though, hahah of course.

Whoever told you that was lying.

This would a be a perfect thread for someone to start complaining about Bayer pattern theory... no wait, mainstream Hollywood film makers picked it over film based on look alone, and are loving it to create art... isn't that the end of the argument?

Congrats RED team. I'm bloody loving my camera. Grading off the RAW footage is an absolute dream!

Give me a FF35 Epic with a PV mount and a box of E and C series anamorphics from Panavision and I'm a HAPPY guy!

I appreciate your taste for simple and beautiful things :)

I know everyone on the board is a pro and so we have to be serious all the time- but come on guys, no one wanted to make a joke about putting "pantie hose" on the back of a lens?

I can see the red R&D team now shooting test footage and tweaking the red one to get that "pantyhose behind the lens look". It was obviously a primary goal from the start.

Red's Biggest Client?

Red's Biggest Client?

Panavision have had Red One's from very early on.

Lots of cameras, both PL and PV mounted.

It wouldn't surprise me if they were Red's single biggest client.

They are Arri's biggest client.

My source at Panavision Woodland Hills tells me they did not supply the cameras for this movie, just the lenses and support. Nor did they make the mounts. Can someone tell me where the PV mounts came from?

Doesn't look that IMS PV was mounted.

For sure it was something like a custom made PV for RED1.

I heard they're using the P+S Technic's mount.

I wonder what mount Soderbergh uses when he shoots Panavision anamorphic?

They are not using a P+S Technic mount.
