Adobe Premiere Pro And AE CS5 Help & Feedback

I don't think it is a secret that we showed Mysterium-X and the new color science support at NAB at the RED user event. It didn't ship with CS5 but you should have to wait long. It includes FLUG, shadow and the new color settings. We are investigating curves, white point etc...

Whilst I really like what RED has done with Redcine-x, Adobe has some very sophisticated colorimetric tools in Light-room and Photoshop. The Adobe raw tools combined with, Reds tools, the curves adjustments tool, the vibrancy and saturation tool, plus the current color wheels will make PPro more Powerful than any competing NLE

I 2nd this, and also a powerful grading suite..

I really think Adobe should just add a video timeline and the mercury playback engine to Lightroom. The programming language used for lightroom is light and very nifty. check out how beautiful the interface and features are

that timeline with the standard color grading toolsets,

adding it to the metadata workflow for ppro.. send metadata to ppro after finishing grading.. having it sent to ppro cs5 waiting to get rendered using mpe..
but, still a three-way color wheels are needed.. maybe you then have them in PPro..

We have people looking at timecode in audio, no promises yet.

Being the guy that works his ass off dealing with QT files.... (grumpy at apple's laking qt support) I want to make sure prores works. Can you get me a sample file? I haven't seen this bug. I know apple just bit me by moving where the hide the field info in prores, adobe standardized that years back and now apple moves it for fun... Probably similar changes in timecode.

Cheers
Dave

I have another problem with qt files.. I have a qt h264 files that were encoded from JVC .tod files in a CS4 project..
when I open the project in CS5 it takes ages reading those files then the app fills the memory so fast and then crashes..

Just a note, I had issues with the Mercury playback option greyed out on my Mac for Premere Pro CS5.
Found out from Adobe support that the Mercury engine requires a minimum version of 2.3 for the CUDA driver. The one you can download from the normal nvidia site is only version 2.2.

They had me download the developers version (v3.0) and I am now able to select either software or hardware in the project general properties.

it is also a part of 10.6.3

Does anyone know if the move to 64-bit mean I have to get all my current plug-ins in 64-bit versions? Will older/discontinued 32-bit plug-ins still work?

Hi guys, I have a questions here:

I have powermac 2.8 quad xeon with 12 giga, and Fx quadro 5600, and the QUADRO FX 5600, that cost me U$2.500 last year, doesn't work on mercury engine in premiere pro.......WHY ? can I fix that ?

thanks

Well, you can try the hack, but you can't be sure Mercury is running perfectly.

My MacPro Xeon runs perfectly with the Quadro FX 4800.

source settings dialog...

source settings dialog...

Hello Dave,

just wanted to ask - is the source settings dialog reasonably quickly accessible? Imagine a timeline with 100s of clips, all have to be whitebalanced using that dialog.

And in CS4, one really had to select a clip and go somewhere and open this - esp in AE it was really very boring, copying presets in say intercut dialogue problematic, too... any chance to move all this into a palette available all the time in UI like other windows perhaps instead of hidden dialogue? And some dragdrop or copypaste support for copying presets quickly? Trust me, I finished feature film in Prem/AE and know, how painful it was.

As Jim Jannard mentioned on reduser, proper whitebalancing is essential for good results, so people will use the dialog again and again...

Thanks and regards,
Stepan

I want these two things, BADLY:

Easy way to replace footage (proxy workflow) on a per-clip basis.
Easy way to have Premier switch drives - so have Premiere see drive D as drive G etc. we are always moving around externals, and the letters change around. Better still would be a little window that would reassign folders so on one side it would say G:HairsprayFootage/Day2 on the other a new folder designation. I could reassign this as any new folder, so when in the project it is looking for clips in G:HairssprayFootage/Day2 I could tell it to instead look for those very same clips in say T:/AllFootage/Day

2 - In AE PLEASE give me a one-click way to link a Clone Brush to to any set of 2 trackers. Ever try painting out dark under-eye circles or a pimple from someone's moving face? It's now a convoluted nightmare. The inability to do this easily (in CS4 - have not yet tried CS5) is the no.1 reason, in my opinion, to move to another platform from AE, which is otherwise excellent and affordable.

If others would find these features useful, please chime-in.

In AE select one clip in the project window and then select Interpret Footage, More Options and make your changes. Then go to File->Interpret Footage->Remember Interpretation. Then select the other clips and use File->Interpret Footage->Apply Interpretation

In PPro select all the clips and select source settings, the settings apply to all clips.

Does this help?

Cheers

Dude, I agree 100%...especially with the replace footage issue with premiere. It can be pretty tedious having to relink all your files due to a drive letter change or folder.

lol...thanks Mo...I know how to change a drive letter ... but like Rob said, the portable drives change constantly and sometimes you cannot use the original letter as another drive is using it (I don;t want to have to shuffle all the drive letters every time....a simple option in Premiere could fix all this) AE does a better job at managing proxies and locations

I have never run into that problem, I never use portable drives for various reasons, But I would try the new Cs5 project manager, it allows you to move projects and find footage
