AE: Its much Faster processing of larger images, larger comps and higher color-spaces.
32-bit plug-ins will NOT work in AE CS5 without an update.
Checkout AEs CS5 Plugin Update guide: http://www.yenaphe.info/cs5-update-guide/

The new Roto Brush tool and Refining Matte are real time saver (can't stop playing - lol)
Keylight layer and Roto Brush + Refining matte layer Combination are sick
(Note: Keylight is missing in Trail Version.)

Ppro: Export Final Cut Pro XML is working, some issues where things do not quite carrying over perfectly.
Ex: Like Horizontal flip in ppro doesn't work, its not exist in FCP

Still Testing..... Will come back soon

AFAIK there is no red CS5 installer. Its supposedly built in. I have not tried it yet, I hope some one else can confirm this.

I hope a rep or evangelist from Adobe will log on this weekend as the questions and reports flow

Immediate feedback:
New color science is fantastic, matching color from an old clip rendered in Premiere CS4, CS5 renders noise in shadows so much more gracefully and colors are easier to control. Also rendering time from CS4 to CS5 has almost been cut in half. A clip that took 19min to render in CS4 just took 10min in CS5, that is a huge leap.

So far I am unable to import R3D files into AE CS5 (Full version, not trial) Am I missing something?

update:
Never mind, never restarted after installation, r3D files now import fine, and with proper gamma right off the bat.

Okay
PPro CS5 is very impressive, I really like the meta logging and the new project manager. I haven't had the chance to try out Ultra. just for fun I edited a 30 sec trailer, very snazy real time, all the time. I used an 08 octocore mac. 4k full res real time playback and edit. The new color curves are cool, but they don't work well with my kensington ball mouse like colorista or Color does. Its very difficult to gradually color without dragging the curve, I took of the cc its not great for real time. I did a dynamic link into AE.... AE is a whole new beast. My mac octocore is loaded with 32 gb, I stacked a c4d light grid effect with a few stock explosions, debris etc, all in 32bit linear space, it only stuttered for about 3 mins till it was fully loaded in the ram preview, then like butter it played back in real time, 30 full secs of 4k. This is not my usual work-flow, I usually create low proxies of all my footage. So you can imagine how I felt to see this kind of playback. I am waiting for the gtx 480 for this mac

On my newer i7 mac computer which has a gtx 285 card, CC in CS5 was is effortless. I only wish pluraleyes for PPro, and Black magic resolve are available soon as i want to cut a music vid on this mac

Fully supported by Adobe

Fully supported by Adobe

R3D support is a first class citizen in CS5. There is no bits needed from RED. We worked very closely with RED this cycle and that will continue going forward. We will continue to update our RED support in the future so keep watching Adobe.com or asking questions here. You won't have to wait long for more news. I also am pretty sure RED is there in the trials, maybe without presets. But in both AE and PPro you can take a r3d file and drop it on the new button in the project window to get a comp with matching settings without presets.

Thanks Dave

Thanks Dave,

R3d's work very very well in CS5

I'd expect R3D working in the trial as well, since all the restrictions are on MPEG (2 to 4) due to licensing reasons. RED has no reason to suppress the use of their decoder in the trial, AFAIK.

I cant seem to find the Redcine-x sliders in PPro cs5, I thought I say this in one of the demonstrations. I need to tweak white balance and FLUT in PPro

has anyone figured out how to export FCP xml from (H proxy) and import into PPro CS5 as an R3D timeline?

importing xml from FCP with R3D is a bit of a pain :(

We worked directly with a user to try and get this working. Apple is lazy and requires only working with .mov files. So when you export the xml from FCP and import into Ppro you get a link to those .mov files. What you should be able to do is a find and replace in the exported xml and use .r3d on the file paths instead of .mov However, this doesn't work due to a bug on our side. We are trying to fix that...

Sorry

I am very impressed with your honesty. The best way currently, would be to use Clipfinder. Since you edited with proxies in FCP, you can swap those proxies with R3ds, using clipfinder the import into PPro CS5. This will also be a painful short coming, going xml out to Apple color will be tricky as well, since Apple can't handle R3D's natively.
This is the main reason I cant wait for BM resolve, so we can bypass Apple color and use resolve instead. Sometimes I wish Adobe had bought final color instead of Apple, it would have been a much better tool to use.

no problem... I would love to see this workflow work. I understand the need for users to move from FCP to PPro :) But seriously as far as the bug on our side goes we are actively looking at it. Hadn't heard about the need to go the other way. I will add it to a list of things to investigate for FCP export.

Cheers

Dave
