  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ADOBE PREMIERE 6 --- I HAVE NO WORDS ....

Hi All,

This bears repeating every couple of pages, so here goes:

We're stoked that you guys are so excited to test out Premiere Pro CS6, but keep in mind that the links to the trial copy listed in this thread are NOT OFFICIAL RELEASES yet. You guys are trying things BLEEDING-EDGE, and not all of the necessary partner components are available yet.

For 3rd-party cards, like AJA, Black Magic, etc, you will need Mercury Transmit Drivers, which, to my knowledge, have not been released yet for the "big 3" (Matrox, Black Magic, and AJA.) It's possible you may see some functionality if you install the older drivers and presets, but that's not recommended or supported.

The new Mercury Transmit technology does NOT require special timeline presets to function. If you are seeing Timeline Presets for AJA or Black Magic, then you probably have older drivers installed. With Mercury Transmit, you can use any timeline preset. Controls for the output card are under Preferences - Playback.

For OpenCL support or CUDA support, you may need updated drivers as well.

The official release is coming, and our partners are all working on the best drivers for the new software, but please keep this in mind when you are playing with this "unofficial" release. Thanks!

You get more apps with Cloud than Production Premium. I realize not everyone needs all these, but here is the comparison:

That is exactly part of my point. You're basically forced to pay extra for things you don't want with Cloud. Fortunately there is still the box version option, but I'm concerned at some point that won't be an option. Plus there's still the issue with if you cancel your Cloud subscription you end up with no software even though you've likely already paid the same amount or more for the box version of the software.

Not to start any flame wars, but I tested DV 9.5 (Intensity Pro > HDMI > Dell U2711) with both CS 6 PPro and FCPX 10.0.4. Using the same ProRes 422 codec from R3D 4K HD, the footage seems to be blurry in PPro at Full res compared to FCPX. Not a big deal but Im wondering if anyone else noticed this?
I will test on the DeckLink (CUBIX > Flanders) today against Avid AMA and Resolve.

I've noticed that it defaults playback resolution to 1/4 or 1/8 quality. Change it to full.

Thanks for the warning and heads-up. I'll say that CS6 is still pretty awesome, even with bugs and things that might be missing in the unofficial version. You guys are doing a great job and it's appreciated that Adobe is listening to editors. Many things that I was looking for after transitioning from FCP have been addressed with CS6.

Okay - one last caveat... I've been informed that some of the card makers may be including some custom timeline sequence presets in their Mercury Transmit drivers. These are OPTIONAL. They have nothing to do with output via their cards. It has to do with the rendering codec used when generating preview files. Some card makers include their own DI codec for rendering preview files. If you aren't using a supported GPU, and/or you render the timeline to a preview file, these timeline presets are worthwhile. But whether you use them or not shouldn't affect the monitoring via the card.

Keep monitoring the card manufacturer's support sites for a CS6 supported driver download. Looks like Black Magic is the first to offer one with the Desktop Video 9.5 release: http://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/detail/?os=mac&sid=3945&pid=4013&leg=false

Just tested warp stabilizer this morning. Timeline and clip have to be the same, but it works very well at stabilizing. I also love the mac touchpad updates being able to pinch & zoom and being able to scroll not only side to side, but up and down as well. CS6 is killer.

Thanks Dave, maybe I was trying to ingest Red Epic files to Prelude. It shows errors. Is Prelude able to read Red or Epic files? Or maybe I may have not installed the trial version correctly. Lim

Hopefully theres a new driver update for Blackmagic above 9.5 soon cause at the moment I still have to put my footage into a Blackmagic preset timeline to get video out. That shouldn't be the case with CS6...

Will the AJA LHe Card work in Snow Leopard? Or will I need to upgrade that system to Lion as well? We are Lion haters :).

I was a Lion "holder outer" as well. But I had to install it to take advantage of Adobe Transmit & AJA Kona 3 functionality in CS6.

Call or write AJA regarding LHe. Their tech support is great.

This is totally random speculation on my part (don't have a BMD setup to confirm/deny), but maybe the reason it's working with the BMD preset and not with other sequences might be due to mismatching output resolution. What's the BMD preset's frame size/frame rate? If you pick the equivalent default Adobe preset that matches, does the output work? Also, doesn't BMD have a control widget to control the output resolution? I'd check that...

Well, for now there are options. Just do it the old fashioned way and get what you want and have a license that works forever. I think you are right in thinking that may not be an option in the future. I think Adobe is likely trying to move everyone to Cloud subscriptions. Personally, I have no problem with it. I like that I can download and use any app I want. I think that will prove very useful.

Finally got the demo on a ROCKET Mac Pro system here.
Cant seem to get the ROCKET to work with v6.
I guess its not compliant yet?

Import an R3D file into your project. Right-click on it and go to Source Settings. Look for the Red Rocket buttons, and enable it from there. Premiere Pro uses the Rocket to decode 4k media direct in the timeline, so the CPU load on the system drops dramatically with the Rocket active.

Do you have the Rocket in the correct slot in the Mac Pro tower?

Thanks for the tip Karl. I guess it isnt a default setting across all imported clips.
