  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Adobe Announces native Dragon support in Premiere Pro

Great progress on integrating Speedgrade much more seamlessly into a Premier workflow. I was hoping Adobe would get there soon, but I didn't quite expect you'd manage it this quickly.

Thanks! We had this vision from early on and are very excited to be able to bring this to you!

Cheers

You can take your AE Comp and bring it into Adobe Media Encoder and get all the export options from there. There are DCP plugins for AME available and it supports Mpeg2-Bluray.

Cheers

Dave

I noticed that in CC, and I am liking that AME frees me up to continue working on another comp.

Pardon me Dave, a vision? Hasn't FilmLight implemented Adobe's "vision" for a couple of years now with the interoperability between NUKE, Baselight, FCP7 and AVID? You can easily jump back and forth between all apps without the need to render. All grades just follow.

In case anybody missed it. In this round of the CC update for Adobe Media Encoder there's now GPU acceleration support.

Awesome, I guess I need to get some AME training (lmao ... took me a minute to realize that AME = Adobe Media Encoder).

That's super cool, I started watching the new adobe video's ... a lot of time saving tips & processes that will help me out.

BTW, what panels Speedgrade supports now?

Hey Jake,

Speedgrade definitely supports the Tangent Element, and the mapping is excellent, IMO...

I've been using the Element for the past year on Resolve V9, and although the mapping is not bad, it leaves much to be desired. After a week on Resolve V10Beta, I have to say that although there have been improvements, it's nothing worth writing home about. I imagine it's just too much of a conflict of interests for BMD considering their panel.

In any event, Tangent Element works great with Speedgrade and the mapping is very well thought out. I never really gave Speedgrade a chance until they released CC with support for the Element, and now I'm glad I did. It's a nifty little program and I think Adobe is going to build it into something really great in due time.

Hoep this helps.

Thanks for your post Justin. Unfortunately, there are still couple of issues, that I'd like for Adobe to resolve before I'd give SG a second look. I had Elements for a short while, but I ended up going back to MC Color. I just prefer to use it for a couple of reasons, that I don't think are important for this conversation. So, I need MC Color support. And second, i still waiting on the information of BM card (probably will never happen) or AJA card support. Without it, the display is only 8 bit. Sorry, but it's not going to fly with the professional users. Also, because I'm already Resolve user, if and when AJA support will materialize, I still will not be able to use it, as the slot is occupied already by BM card. So, Adobe has a lot work to do, before I will be able to give SG a chance...

David, Direct Link between Premiere and SpeedGrade has me jumping for joy! We are editing/grading "Rogue River" on Premiere/Speedgrade and the ability to easily go back and forth is going to be a god send!

I think once more people start mastering in 4k for REDRAY/Odemax, etc. the ability to go between Premiere and SpeedGrade using only the RAW files is going to be a huge deal.

A basic improvement that has been long overdue is the ability for both AE and Premiere to reread the metadata for an entire selection of R3D's. Having to dig into the file interpretation popups for every single file in a set of hundreds every time updates are made in RCX is just nuts. In some cases the workflow has to be R3D -> AE -> Premiere, and in those instances in particular it really hurts, because AE bogs down every time you point to a different R3D in the media browser.

Great news!

Now when can we get RAW keyframing for R3Ds and CR2s so we can ramp exposures, colors, etc, like footage, instead of still frames? :ihih: Or have I missed this update?

I agree with Jake... lack of BMD video output makes Speedgrade not even an option. It's impossible to do real critical and accurate color correction without proper monitoring. I couldn't even consider it if it had only AJA support (because, like Jake, I have BMD hardware already, as do most colorists these days) and most color grading needs to be done in Resolve (it's what's requested and/or expected). But if there was BMD support I would at least consider it and give it a shot, especially if I was brought a PP project to color correct.

I'm really surprised proper video output is not included in this release. That should have been the first thing Adobe focused on, even before Direct Link.

That said, it looks like a lot of nice upgrades in this upcoming release. Glad to see Adobe releasing quicker upgrades than before.

Second that. No BMD output equals car without wheels.

My biggest gripe with SpeedGrade was the lack of dynamic linking with Premiere. It was easier to export for Resolve than to SpeedGrade. So I'm a happy camper now that SpeedGrade is properly integrated. Add in the Dragon support and I'm glad once again to be an Adobe CC user.

I guess that there's one question that we all must have on our minds.

Does this mean that new color science behind DRAGONCOLOR and DRAGONGAMMA are ready to go?

I feel like I'm one of the only ones who has been asking about the new color science. It's probably the thing I am most looking forward to in Dragon.

The "beta" testers confirmed they were using RC3/RG3. Dragons are shipping and still using RC3/RG3 on them? Adobe announces native support for Dragon 6K with full color science support. WHAT COLOR SCIENCE? WHERE IS IT? Jim conformed it was coming. WHEN? I don't understand why the sensor is being released without new updated color science. Will we have to wait for ANOTHER revision of 3rd party apps to support the new color science IF/WHEN it comes out?????

Well there was this little hint:

DRAGONCOLOR and DRAGONGAMMA will likely come out in October, we still are making sure it covers all the basis. Right now people with the Dragons are using beta builds with an Dragonfied RG3 and RC3 , and that beta build will probably roll out to the public shortly after IBC.

So it looks like October for official new color science. Remember, because we're working with raw the results the beta cameras are getting with that "Dragonfied RG3 and RC3" yield good results.

Once the floor boards are hammered down, we'll get even better results with DC/DG.
