  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A taste...

Looks like 2009 will be the year of complete rev.

Speculation

Speculation

I am now comfortable in saying that the most aggressive speculation will not come close to what we will announce Nov. 13th.

So that means it will be powered by a plutonium button-cell?

Not exactly sure what this is... :-)

This? This is obviously Howie's Deal or No Deal! button.

Not buying into the idea that this is a baseplate -- why would they be making a baseplate for SCARLET, supposedly a lightweight camera priced to attract a broad base of consumers, including non-professionals -- that is spec'd for a professional tripod that costs at least twice as much as the camera? That doesn't make any sense.

Gyroscopic stabilizer?

Now *that's* an interesting thought, something that removes camera shake without all the need for heavy expensive stabilizing gear.

I keep rotating this thing around, wondering what would be worth adding this un-ergonomic-looking fin tail to a camera set-up. Whether it sticks out the back, or straight up and down, or even top-mounted with the letters upside down, it doesn't seem organic to anything that I know about camera design.

It must be something really amazing, to want this odd protrusion. I'm sure I will want it, RED has already helped me to want a remarkable number of things that I would have never considered wanting before...but I can't, for the life of me, figure out why I would want a fin tail sticking out of my camera...

November 13 can't get here fast enough.

Wow, now you've really gone and done it!

So somehow you managed to get this technology out from the locked basement of that secret military installation in Nevada. Congratulations.

Your refactoring of the design puts it in a neat package. No doubt it was the shielding of other components from the EM fields it generates that took the real time.

I gotta hand it to ya Jim, putting an anti gravity device in the base of the new Scarlet is just the best idea ever! No more need for lugging round heavy tripods - or any other grip equipment for that matter, not even steadycams or cranes! Just press the RED logo button and your camera is instantly locked hovering in space - various directional and pitch/tilt /roll controls allow smooth constrained movement.

Surely this thing will come with a remote screen and controller for aerial shots or are those holes at the back to attach an operator platform to fly about with the camera ? Will operators of this camera need a pilots license to use this accessory then? Might be good for commuting too...

;-)

it's not about whether it's a professional camera or not, it is about making SCARLET affordable enough to broaden the user base....and building something to fit a $900 Arri - style baseplate is not consistent with that mission.

and plenty of folks have lined up for SCARLET who don't own/can't afford a $6K tripod...I doubt RED will disregard their needs.

quite possibly, perhaps SCARLET, EPIC, and the DSMC are all one project, with disparate modular parts and price points that you can add on according to budget. This piece says (we think) SCARLET, though, so if it is a baseplate, I'm still confused how "Arri base plate" and "accessible price point" are consistent.

maybe there is a RED ONE that will just be the intermediary price point version of the SCARLET/RED ONE/EPIC/DSMC tinker toy kit, and we can trade our cameras straight across and then pay up for the EPIC version or else disassemble the same camera and reassemble it as SCARLET.

a single modular system that could configure four different ways. so we could be RED ONE owners, get SCARLET for free, and still pay up for EPIC...

i wonder how much they will charge for the add-on teleportation system and espresso machine?

i can't seem to stop chewing on the possibilities....this is killing me...

Forget tripod.

Scarlet is a 3K/2K camera mostly designed for a hand held work.

Of course you could attach it on a tripod even something top notch like an ARRI geared head.

No problem.

Here on the picture below is a side of bottom part from battery (+/-) REDraid combo (all optitional)

that is attached on Scarlet camera body.

Whole Scarlet we cannot see more today because...

Nov13 is a date for that.
