Yes you're right. I don't think it would suit his style to cripple something. I was thinking that different modules allow for different requirements such as cooling, buffer, cost and form factor. Eg DSLR and Scarlet can be handheld and the DSLR can be even smaller. Epic needs more cooling & space.
By sharing a common sensor module, Red can get economies of scale and owners can upgrade later or have more options.
I agree with you there. I appears from these teaser pics that the cameras will be more modular.
Still Jim has also said in another forum (I don't have the link sorry) that Scarlet and Epic have not merged. I'm think this concept is likely what is happening with a modular Scarlet-DSMC type camera depending on how you 'build it out'.
