  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

A taste...

Yes you're right. I don't think it would suit his style to cripple something. I was thinking that different modules allow for different requirements such as cooling, buffer, cost and form factor. Eg DSLR and Scarlet can be handheld and the DSLR can be even smaller. Epic needs more cooling & space.

By sharing a common sensor module, Red can get economies of scale and owners can upgrade later or have more options.

I agree with you there. I appears from these teaser pics that the cameras will be more modular.

Still Jim has also said in another forum (I don't have the link sorry) that Scarlet and Epic have not merged. I'm think this concept is likely what is happening with a modular Scarlet-DSMC type camera depending on how you 'build it out'.

More and more i think the idea of a modular camera system is likely what we're looking at. Why would there be a logo that said 'Scarlet' on a camera accessory? Especially if we're under the impression that accessories work on all cameras. I think what we're looking at in this new picture is the body of scarlet with the modular unit sensor in the upper right. I think I like the idea of modular signal processing units that use the same sensor and mounting system. I cant wait to find out for sure.

My take... LOL! :)

feels like the bottom "front facing" logo portion of the Scarlet and the holes are for the handles or other accessories to mount to. esp since that would make the connectors above the logo down facing which is smart. but its all conjecture anyhoo.

I'm gonna guess that the actual Scarlet is the part plugged in at the right hand side of this image... Looks like the parts separate there and the bottom portion is either a charger/dock or a mount of some sort.

The bottom part certainly doesn't look like something that anybody would want to hold (like part of the camera body).

Agreed. I think this is the removable baseplate for a tripod or fluid head Mitchell mount. This accessory makes a baseplate like the one below look cool. Plus think about it, I don't think Jim Jarred and the rest are going to chance giving something away that we don't already know is coming in some form.

Free camera for the first person who gets it right Jim?

is it just me, or does the plate look like its sliding up and to the left? at first i thought the back left corner just angled out, but right up front on the right there's clearly an indention, which wouldn't make sense unless the whole ramp thing is angled. i don't know why it would be offset. maybe I'm just crazy.

Here's a quick render of what I think we are looking at.... Feel free to remove the post if I'm right Jim

edit: fixed image

edit: my scale is a little off here though!

That would seem to limit use of some ultra wide lenses?

This is exactly my take as well! the only difference is that the teaser pic you have pasted on the side of the camera would be a on a grip that attaches to the side of the camera and is flush with the back, not the side.

I was just going to draw this up but you beat me to it :)

I don't know if I follow... the camera (as I see it) is that little squared off corner in the top right of the pic and we are seeing the back of the camera body, so the lens mount would facing to the right in this picture and well above and forward enough to not risk seeing any of the head/tripod in the frame.

Is that what you were getting at?

edit: fixed render above to have baseplate pointing in the correct direction

Fixed this, pay no attention to the backwards lettering on the fluid head...

Maybe a little handheld camera should be on a head like this

that could even satisfy "multi million dollars production" crew just because has

still photo lens swapped on (for example Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95) :holloween: :clown2: :) .

Part of a monitor with heat sinks?

Why would they be focusing on something as simple as a baseplate....

Especially considering that there are already many well made base plates at a very affordable cost from other manufacturers.

I think you guys are missing the bigger picture...At least I hope so.

My guess is that it's a removable counter-balance weight plate for flying the camera?
