#4K4ALL

My main point is that "affordable 4k" is everywhere. Now, I don't think RED wants to compete in the $3k 8bit 420 space, so it will be more substantial than that.

URSA Mini has RAW and ProRes 444 and it costs less than 3k$.

The very last thing i would ever ever want RED to do is try to be like Blackmagic Design.... ridiculous to even compare the two companies. Just my opinion. However it is exciting to think there may be a good Camera to Fly on drones/ use on smaller budgeted projects!

More thoughts since my last post.

I personally think it will still shoot REDCODE RAW. Can't fathom a reason why it wouldn't.

It would be interesting if it did both ProRes and REDCODE RAW similar to Weapon "in some way". Perhaps WiFi as well.

Don't know if Mysterium-X will drop back into the game. Dragon is a better sensor truly and has gained a lot of traction industry wide at this point. I wouldn't put it past RED to have something "new" though, the lack of seeing the name below the RED logo in the image makes me think things. I can see a 4K-5K unique cut of the Dragon sensor in there maybe, maybe something new. Wonder if that's where it's going. Curious how it will be different than Scarlet Dragon for sure.

From just the tease of the body though, it's clear the manufacturing is refined to the extent where cost savings should be evident. Looks to me like it takes significantly less time to assemble which is making me think this is something that can be mass produced easier and put that 4K4ALL hashtag to good effect.

There's also a lot we can't see in the image as well.

RED could go with the Weapon name on this perhaps or go with something new.

What is clear, at least to me is the new camera line-up shortly will be:

- RED "mystery camera" (unknown specs or release date)
- RED Weapon 6K Dragon MG (Shipping after CF/Forged and eventually at the same time)
- RED Weapon 6K Dragon CF/Forged (Forged already shipping, CF likely October/November 2015)
- RED Weapon 8K Dragon CF/Forged (Hopefully shipping before 2015 is over)

Well, RAW is a two edged sword. Depending on how it's implemented it can be as much a 'bug' as a 'feature'.

Uncompressed raw isn't usable to anyone. Or at the very least, it has no style or panache. It feels cheap and unfinished to me.

redcode is the single best reason to be working in the Red ecosystem. It absolutely should/must make use of it. By all means let it output 4k for pro res via an Odyssey 7Q if that cuts down on the price of a licence.

Lossless CinemaDNG RAW and RAW 3:1. Those are both great as you should know.

My guess is this camera will do R3D RAW up to say 30fps@4K and a variety of other resolutions and framerates in different flavors of ProRes. 120GB SSD should be more than enough for ProRes capture. Seems very logical from a marketing standpoint too.

I bet on a

- 5k camera up to 30p, (60p in 4k?).
- R3D
- Weapon like aluminium body
- Dragon sensor
- Fixed lens mount (choose between Nikon, Canon)
- Integrated wifi
- Prores HD would make a lot of sense (but not likely to happen because of $$$)
- 2kg
- 9500.-- $ bundle with some goodies (1ssd, or some battery module and access, ... )

The 4'6'' touch screen was aimed at this camera/market. They told it was the cheapest (not neccessarly speaking about the build quality) monitoring device they ever made.

I think you guys need to really think what "4K4ALL" means...

Please define "ALL" ;-)

First of all, if it says 4K4ALL. It's not gonna be 5K camera. If it was, it would say 5K4ALL. Secondly, RED is not stupid. Do you think they would make 4K camera and try to sell it for 10k$? No one would buy it when you have BM's, Sony's, Canon's and so on for a lot cheaper. "4LL" means it's gonna be cheap and It's gonna have to compete with the BM cameras.

It's gonna have to compete with the BM cameras.

There's not much effort required to compete with BM's offerings. I doubt RED pays too much attention to them beyond rolling their eyes. BM should be worried about GoPro and the APPLE - because they will soon surpass their image quality.

SONY on the other hand - has some less expensive 4K options that are relevant to the boarder market.

Yep, as I say it will genuinely really have to go some to be able to compete on a features/specs level with an FS7 with a 7Q.

A shrunk down Scarlet with the same specs won't cut it I'm afraid. Even the framerates of a Scarlet Dragon for 4k and 2k are no longer groundbreaking at a 'ready to shoot' price point, and NOT super35mm, which the FS7 is at high frame rates.

Fascinated to see what Red do and if they are able to compete at the lower end on specs as well as image quality (the area I feel it almost always wins out on).

Nice trolling. You 12 years old? Jarred owns bmcuser.com. I doubt he is rolling anything. Just shows that you are scared because BM has awesome cinema cameras coming out for 3k$ and 5k$ that will make probably something that you own obsolete.

Cool, but PLEASE, dont make it a 4/3 camera. Please. Sensors need to get bigger, not smaller.
Video needs to get closer to photos, not further.
Full frame is the future, lets not make it wait any longer.

This is what the markets wants:
Full frame 35mm RED weapon dragon DSLR.
Canon and Nikon mounts
Shoots 8 photos per second
4 k video at 30 fps
2k video at 60.

And then let us do it!

Its not going to happen, ever, but I can only dream.

Ummm... I really don't think Mark has anything to be scared of in the arena he works in....

For myself, I have yet to see a Blackmagic Camera that didn't have some sort of fatal design flaw. Hopefully they'll get it right one day but thus far I don't know of a single TV show (let alone drama) that has shot on BM cameras exclusively, and for a reason.

I do not in any way or shape want this camera you just described. :)

I'd essentially like an S35 sensor camera with the specs of an FS7 with the image quality of a Dragon and redcode. :)
