  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4K for 4K...

As soon as Dragon and our "new technology" has been released, I won't be just taking a little time off. I will have done my job.
Jim
If that means no physical presence at your desk/workplace 24/18 (or more) in the future, I fully applaud your decision. But I am sure and do hope that even from a distance you will continue to inspire, advise and lead this revolution/movement/company you created.

Many have asked how long RED ONEs with M-X sensors for 4,000 will last?

I don't know. That is up to you.

The RED ONE M-X sensor has shot a multitude of features, including The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Pirates 4. The idea that you can own a camera that could shoot this quality at this price is unheard of... it is mind blowing.

It was no surprise that many have jumped on the program at the newest price. I paid much more for serial numbers 1-5 myself. :-)

When people look up "the best bargain in the history of man"... this RED ONE deal shows up in 1st place. And there aren't many left.

Jim

Been telling people about it Jim, and Epic-x deal. I've moved on, want something that does 4k at 50fps, plus I understand it will cost to kit it up to shooting ready. Any chance with the latest sensor and chipset revision, it can be made to do 50p and maybe some extra signal to noise ratio ;) , groovy item?

OK, rewrite, refurbished, I see it down there. If only you could manufacture these with a bit greater sensor performance and 4kp50/p48 with a shooting ready package for $5k, it would be great. Actually, thinking about it, a manufacture revision after all these years, would allow a shrink down to a 4k 50p ready to shoot all in one canon mount package, a great camera, against a Canon mk5d.

I have been involved with some very special shoots with this camera system... its been a bullet proof tank since Build 20 for me. And to think it gets Red Color Science upgrades... for FREE.

The R1 was and still is an incredible camera, miss it very much, I could have just bought 6 of them, but I just had to buy the Epic Monochrome instead, that deal too is juts WOW, but I needed it more then I needed 6 R1's... ;)

What ever DRAGON will be, can't wait it for it, mean while we have already the World's top camera shooting 5k.

Having the pleasure to call you a friend is not small thing for me Jim, and I truly hope that when ready, and you do live RED in the very capable hands of Jarred, you will have done so knowing that you not only changed the Industry for ever, but you have done much more for many of us.

I gotta tell you Jim. The world I came from we digitized the film into 16bit land via 4K and eventually 6K scanners. I dreamed of having that power in a digital capture device. Back when I made the switch from digital colorist to more camera oriented work Red was the only glimmer of light on the horizon to produce a digital cinema camera I wanted to use. With the promise of resolution plus the flexibility of raw Red had me hooked. I seriously couldn't wait to shoot and push those images around in post.

2007 blew me away and so did the Red One. I was surrounded by a lot of folks who "didn't get it" even though Red One slowly started showing up everywhere. By the time Epic was launched with a higher capture resolution, matured color science, and faster frame rates at full resolution a lot of those folks certainly started to see the light. Especially when showed some sample images at 5K.

I've been working with the Red One and Epic here and there while still in the world of VFX, but by the time Scarlet dropped last year you guys really blew my mind. I remember saying out loud "that's beautiful" during the launch event at RSH while you stood in the center isle introducing Scarlet. That for me was an easy purchase. That vision of an affordable 4K camera that not only trounced the other announcement that day but also in many ways out performed cameras 10x that price point.

2012 I've worked exclusively on Red. Shooting with Epic and Scarlet. And there's still no other camera out there I enjoy using more. 4K for $4K is here today. Epic and Scarlet are available at a tremendous price point. You guys came through on your promise in a big way and it's been clear to me what direction you've been going. Dragon is going to be incredible and released at a price that is unprecedented.

I remember the bad press from all those years ago, but seriously Red has been my favorite "vaporware" to shoot with. You've got tremendous talent out there shooting masterpieces with artistry all over the world who prefer shooting on Red cameras. From the biggest movies to final projects at film schools. This Reduser community, Red Studios Hollywood, and Irvine. Red was founded in 1999 (right when I started working in the industry), but the bulk of this all took place in the last 5 years. All just unreal and hard to believe.

That's a lot of hard work.

Heh heh we are attached at the hip.. even when we are not together. Our wives call us mistresses. Jim and I communicate with each other more times in a single day than either of us talk to most people in a month.

It's been like that since we met.. and will continue to be that way forever.

Rewrote my last post. An interesting read.

I suppose I'll have to ask questions, if anybody can reply now that will be appreciated, support will be out. Thanks.

How long and big is the Redone?

What else is needed to get it to independent shooting standard?

Is it true that an SSD drive is included, or is that just a module for a mag?

A bit confused, what do I need to use a standard shop SSD drive, and what plugs into what?

What are the control options, and what is the remote?

What are the battery and power options, are they standard ones, or do they need to be the ones at the Red store?

Is control independent of the screen?

Any PL to other slr lens converters out there?

How sensitive in low light is it?

I take it that it: records four channel sound directly to camera, and has audio monitoring ports; I just hook my own screen and head phones up through hdmi for live monitoring?

Is there anything else I need to know to start shooting, and in owning one of these?

Thanks.

Reading at this thread at this time of night sets me into a reflective mood. And has given cause to write a Haiku.

One Epic Dragon

One word to rule them all, Red

Incite Dominate

The man, the company and the products inspire. Thanks Jim, Jarred and Red.

Plain and simple. This deal is totally AMAZING! If you have never shot with the Red One MX you may not understand this fully. You may be thining to yourself "but this new "something magic camera" shoots like an Alexa, yada yada yada. You haven't a clue how crazy of an opportunity it is to get a FAR superior tool.

And for those thinking about jumping into the machine...you wont be disappointed one damn bit!!! All RED cameras are fabulous. From the original Red One M to the Red Epic Monochrome and beyond...

I think many people will be sorry they didn't act on this insanely awesome opportunity while it lasts. I am a Scarlet owner and I love it to death, but I still prefer the image of the Red One MX myself. But, there are definitely some nice advantages to Scarlet and vice versa.

Once again, thanks a billion for all you do Jim! With all the negative noise out there, I sincerely hope messages like this make it through to you. Your camera changed my life for the better in many ways!

I will be seeing you at NAB 2013 again, when I come visit with my buddy Doug Trumbull ;)

***Also, count me in as one that would be interested in taking a Red One M off your hands at the right price ;) ***
