  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4K for 4K...

There is no real reason NOT to pick up a R1 at this price if you are looking for a cinema camera , unless you allready have an Epic, an F65, or possibly an Alexa with a RAW option or a scarlet

That if you are looking for potential of image quality delivered.

It is THAT hilarious.

Jim, would that be the auto 3D for all the cameras? Awesome stuff. I have been working n my own design ideas, and also have several methods for auto 3d display now, not including the projector.

Glad you are taking time off, the human body can only take so much. You are welcome to drift over here.

Yes, Jim... I'll give you that... You will have done your job of forcing the industry forward. Holding the big guys feet to the fire. But if you think for one moment that the passionate RED community will let you ride into the sunset when things are just really getting started, then you have another thing coming!

RED is here to stay... You, Jarred, Ted, Graeme... well, you've created something bigger than the sum of it's parts.

EPIC + Dragon + Meizler for the price you have set is going to be incredible.

Scarlet + Pro-I/O +1 Module +Proxy Module will be so enabling.

Thank you for an amazing first act... I'm staying tuned!

By the way, it's 4.5K for 4K... ;-)
 
I placed an order the instant the 4K for 4K deal hit the shelves - I was actually refreshing the page!

I'm buggered if I know why, but I'm almost more excited over this than I was ordering Scarlet and then Epic. I guess it's kinda going back to where it began for me, only a couple of short years ago. Epic & Scarlet are workaday tools, in a sense, but R1 was my first real movie camera. At $4K I can indulge myself - and have a 3rd body on the shelf for when Epic takes some time off to go meet Dragon :-)

Yeah, where did those guys 'vanish' to. I was never to worried about vaporware, I waited years for the Scarlet, from before it was announced. I knew it should get done eventually. I was around before Red, and know one way to not see a product developed, is negativity. These people are unreal, jumping on something before it can get up and calling it vapor.
 
4k for $4k on the 4th of November. Best birthday gift I could ever ask for. The number 4 might be unlucky for the Japanese... but it seems to work for me.

Jim retiring.... I don't know what to say. Jarred, you're awesome man but tonight I feel a great loss hearing this news.

You've definitely earned it Jim. Thanks... words can't say. This camera has opened up my world in more ways than any other technology in my short life. Started at #182, wide eyed at that first NAB putting down $1000 that i didn't have, getting you to sign my titanium R and you handing me your metal business card saying "call me anytime" - and you meant it. It's changed my world ever since. Thank you.
 
Im in LA right now and wanted to add a SSD MODULE to my RED ONE MX but feel bad about paying HALF THE PRICE OF A NEW CAMERA ALREADY INCLUNDING THE SSD MODULE into only a module!! Please, can you put the SSD module for the RED ONE for half the price, at least?!?! i would feel much better!

Jarred seems like a really good man, I dig his commitment to RED and You.... but even good men need advice from wiser men... :) So don't stray to far off. Your on going vision is still important to alot of us.

Well some of your friends are doing great work out of retirement :

Steven Soderberg who spits out films in retirement. Or Viggo Mortensen he is also retired and spitting out films and Peter Jackson who retired from doing 3 films back to back again, until he did the 3 hobbit films back to back.
 
I too feel solace in Jim retiring, but Jarred was hand picked and has proven himself a leader with a passion for Red. Things are clearly in good hands. I think Jim will miss the challenge and fun of it, but like Mark said I'm sure he'll be around.

I don't think they vanished. I think it took them a while to see what was going on. There are many shooting Red today that were just slow adopters. Even in the eye of this storm some believe 4K "isn't happening". I do firmly believe that if Red didn't push the pedal on pumping out a 4K camera we would still be swimming in the murk of 1080p based incremental upgrades. The DSLR market for the last few years is somewhat of a nightmarish example of that strategy in my opinion. Companies can certainly profit more by stretching out the "timeline".

In terms of adoption and new technology: There are those who are scared and fearful of the potential of technological innovation. Those who relish in doubt. Reluctant to learn or grow through change. Comfort found in the familiar. I have never been that way. It isn't very exciting and not what I would describe as living. Humans in general survive due to innovation and adaptation. Some need to be shown the way. Some are prepared to go into the darkness and search for themselves. Curiosity, experimentation, discovery, and creation have always been the most rewarding concepts in my life.

The motion picture industry was built on innovation and technological advancement. Red was built that way as well. And they are pushing the industry in some exciting new directions.
 
To be able to get the One for 4K is just insane.

Sure, a lot of great features were shot on it, but one of the jewels that still amazes me to this day is Life Cycles. When I first saw it not so long ago I thought it was shot on EPIC, then I checked the tech info and "bam", that was the One. Completely blew me away.

This camera can kick some serious ass and will forever be a milestone in the world of cinema.

Damn, I might get one just to "own the history", even though I have a Scarlet and plan on getting an Epic.

If not for you guys aspiring filmmakers would still be screwing expensive 35mm adapters to overpriced DV cameras with shitty codecs today.

I would've been furious and emotionally in turmoil. But being plagiarised is connected to innovation in just as strong manner as life is connected to death. You can't get one thing without the other...

Some people say it's a compliment, if so, I guess it's a very hard compliment to take. Just ask late mr. Jobs who had one wish for the future making a lot of lawyers happy, and feeding their families for generations...

Any chance to see some battle-tested SSD Module for Red One in the store?
That's really something I'd like to add to my MX but now it represents more than a 1/4 of the selling price of the camera.
