  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4K Delivery... get ready.

RedRay and no 4K projector to display the content on is not a great idea...

Please release the projector so I can buy a couple!

Definitely the hardest part is not telling you guys all this stuff as it happens...

in some ways i wish it was still the good old days when we could share everything we were doing and the competition would just laugh at us.

Now the competition is paying attention.. and as humbly as I can say this.. it seems we are dictating some of their roadmaps.

My old piano teacher used to say "If you're that good then it's okay to say your that good"

"most innovative content distribution companies"

There was some smart company which wanted to distribute Hollywood opening movies at the day of their official premiere directly to your home by special ultra secure link and player. But you have to pay litle fortune of several thousands $$$ a year so it was aimed for uber rich ones all over the world. They also promised you can see some flicks even day before premiere. It was so secure that even suspicious big studios were ok with it.
Did it ever happened? Has this 4K distriubution something common with this?

Jarred - is this distribution company HQ'ed in Boston, by any chance? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

I wonder if this content delivery system will be a traditional curated store or a more Apple/Microsoft 'open' marketplace. Democratizing distribution without the need for a 'distributor' would be enormous. Make a short film and then red/their partner simply charges a hosting and traction fee of the rental.

Democratizing stuff is kinda what we do .... so you are definitely barking up the right tree.

Now THAT'S intriguing!

Someone really needs to invent a projection screen that works in daylight. Someone get on that! I don't want to live in a dungeon but I do want a giant screen. I might just have to wait for 118" LCDs...

Whats the file size gonna be for a 4k movie file say 120min long.
I wonder what kind of internet I will need to sustain such a stream or possible expiring download.
I wonder if you want to let me test it in my home, and I will sign your NDA.

good idea.

Seriously, it's honestly very cool.

Hollywood is in a revolution that it's core foundation wont survive.....and if what you have is truly open distribution like Apple or Microsoft, then it's a major win for the independent artist. I get Hollywood, and I like aspects of it, but sometimes there's to much red tape bullshit to deal with to get a movie made.

Most recently it was 20 megabits/second. So a two hour movie would be 18 gigabytes.

When first announced it was going to be 10 Mbps. Then they upped it to 15 and said that 10 Mbps would require too much tweaking to get right. Now it's at 20.

Size of 4K flick can be same like at DVD, even smaller ... wavelet is extremely efective with higher resolutions. Already tested on redusers in Las Vegas couple years ago.

Hi,
Super news...When do we get the projectors....
Thanks
Harcharan

This actually looks similar to what the rumored Mac PRO blade replacement is supposed to look like?

these are stand alone Red Ray Pro players that read all kinds of media and encode and deliver 4K content... These have been sitting behind class cases at NAB for a couple years.

These are purpose designed for all those hungry 4K (UltraHD) TV's and projectors that currently have VERY LITTLE content to choose from...

BOOM! thats about to change... pricing and specs Nov 30, 2012 rumored from $1K to $10K for years. That is all we know. But its not a PC... its a 4K Magic box turned on its side for manufacturing and QC

How does it fit in

How does it fit in

So this is a 4K media player. OK.
I understand that more details are coming Nov 30.
I hope to learn how we will be able to encode 4K media to the format on our personal computers. Will this authoring encoder be gratis to allow us to make media ?
Is it's physical media BD media? Dual layer media ( about 50 gigabytes ) is now about 5 bucks a disk. Seems perfect ?
Consumer BD players are about $70. How does this fit in, is it a prosumer item, a videophile item, or pro ?

Very exited to hear more!

Now when do I get a reasonably priced ( under $6K ) UHD TV set to go along with it ? ;)

Les, Hisense has a model out this month, 4kp30 3d I believe. An OEM manufacturer, AUO, I think, has panels coming.
