  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

3rd party Expanders !

Any updates on this? I've been watching both the TILTA and RED site to see if they announce anything...

Chris: I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but... been a long 2 weeks! Any word on these coming units?

Just a question to anybody that has used any 3rd party I/O expanders from Tilta or OffHollywood? I see there pricing is far better than direct from RED? Iv got the vlock battery module, but as you know there is no audio/sdi/signal.... So do I buy the I/O from RED or one of the 3rd party suppliers?

Whelp, now that IBC has happened, yep there is a new OMOD XLR2 Module that's shipping October:
https://offhollywoodny.com/products/omod-xlr

This particular one has "headphone confidence monitoring" and "is" what you'd be looking for. I might get one for my 2nd camera. I'm real curious about it mostly due to it's size.

Super stoked on the Tilta modules. Can't wait to see that group buy.

As soon as we receive the Nucleus M (Yang said hopefully Friday), then the Tilta Module GB will launch. The modules are already shipping, so there shouldn't be any delay from when someone orders to when it ships.

This is the current model without phantom power?

Correct. They tried hard to make it work, and it did, but it still didn't produce a clean enough signal for them, so they scrapped it. I applaud them for doing that. For the price and everything that's included, it's insane, much like their Nucleus-M. And the fact that they are RED approved is icing on the cake. I've absolutely loved using it, it's performed flawlessly. I actually use the one with the XLR ports, since it's a bit smaller, and more often than not, when I'm taking a sound recordist's feed, they typically send a wireless G3 signal or something like that which has a mini anyways.

As you know, typically you never really use the cam's feed anyways for final output delivery, so it's just for syncing, but I do understand time sensitive projects and not having the time/ability to sync to second source sound.

Hi Chris,

All good to hear. Do you mean to say that you use the one without XLR ports - the one with mini phono in/out?

Thank you,
Sean

Correct, That's my fav of the 2 they have. I used the XLR one as well, but I prefer to be leaner/meaner as opposed to slightly more bulky, considering again, I never use XLR's, so that wasn't needed for my rig.

Thanks. That's the way I've been leaning, since I have great sound gear and can send a hop or receiver into the mini and TC plugs. Nice to hear it's working for you.

Just for the heck of it, any idea if they do or will offer phantom on the mini plug?

Doubtful considering they couldn't get the XLR phantom to work, which would have been a priority, but I'll check for you.

Pumped for this Group Buy! Having the option of on-board XLR for a reasonable price would be awesome!

Hey Chris, I'm needing to pull the trigger on a module. Is it safe to assume this Tilta GB isn't happening?

Thanks for being so plugged in!
