hi guys,

Just a question to anybody that has used any 3rd party I/O expanders from Tilta or OffHollywood? I see there pricing is far better than direct from RED? Iv got the vlock battery module, but as you know there is no audio/sdi/signal.... So do I buy the I/O from RED or one of the 3rd party suppliers?

thanks
Steven

Woweee. Thanks for sharing.
Is the discounting still to come?

There will most likely be a group buy (so yea, it's coming), with ordering/fulfillment going directly through Tilta's site as opposed to the WFF group Buy which became problematic for placing/delaying actual orders.

How is the preamps in Tilta RED ADVANCED I/O Module? Seams like a real bargin! Is there any protection for the ports that is looking straight up? Would be cool with some kind of cover.

The Tilta Advanced I/O module does not seem to have phantom power? While it is inexpensive to not have phantom power makes it less attractive to me as I would still need to use a mixer or at least another attachment to provide phantom power.

Keep an eye out for OffHollywood's new OMOD XLR that has supposedly been improved and is about to be re-released. It has phantom power.

So Tilta decided since the phantom power signal couldn't be 100% clean, they decided to cancel that feature/option as opposed to providing it but it not being a clean signal. Honestly, it's always best to do separate sound recording. You could get a self-powered shotgun microphone for on-camera sound, but record via a separate sound device and sync up in post. Will be MUCH cleaner and better sound anyways because the camera's pre-amps aren't clean either.

I agree with this. Whenever I record into camera it's usually either a Sennheiser hop or a snake from the mixer, both of which don't need 48v. One point I'd like to make is the Tilta module that gets you XLR is larger and heavier than the OMOD AKS equivalent. If Tilta did add phantom, it still wouldn't be as run and gun friendly, which is what you'd use 48v for.

I hate 3.5mm with a fiery, burning passion, so I'm looking forward to a module that gets clean audio in via XLR, or no module at all (which is what I'm doing now)
