  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1st X......

Hey man, most of us appreciate how hard you guys are working to get these cameras out, to fulfill these insanely generous stages and all while getting more and more features enabled. What a daunting task. Careful what you wish for, right?

Just try and remember the impatient demand is the ultimate compliment, but it doesn't mean you have to rush to meet it. :) Just keep making the quality gear you are and we (well most of us) will trust the EPIC DSMC will
soon be a fully armed and operational battle station. As long as it has stop and start and all the features I have seen to date, I am eternally grateful to be in line.

I 1000% trust that Deanan (and co) will have playback going soon enough and solid as a rock.
+1
Ditto!

Exactly, I simply want that vmount plate but with 1B on it in the first place. Why isnt red selling that?? They used to sell naked vmounts just like that Switronix one for like $175, and since Red is getting 1B cables, I simply want vmounts with only one lemo...a 1B

I think I'm being a bit thick but I didn't really understand if the backpack was integral to mounting a Brick when it was shown. My first thought was why doesn't the quickplate mount directly to the back of Epic like any other module would? Also couldn't it be powered through the module connections in the same way as the redvolt battery module will, instead of using a lemo cable?

Does the backpack act as some kind of additional structural support which is needed to mount a Red brick. Or is it just an option? That's what I cant figure out. Will Red will eventually release a red brick module that will clip onto the back of the Epic in the same way a redmote does?

I really don't mean to be inflammatory, but I genuinely am a bit confused as to why the backpack seems to be a required additional adaptor.

This is exactly what I want. Power the camera via a red brick through the module v-mount. It should be able since the battery module is supposed to (never have seen a power cable coming out of it in any rendering.)

Hello, Sam's dad here. Thought I'd jump in and explain. Sam really just wanted to rick-roll the guy who said he looked "frightened" in the picture. Note that he didn't take offense at the comment, he thought it was funny.

I must say I couldn't be more proud as a father -- I think a twelve year old rick-rolling on his very first post here on RedUser was pretty impressive.

By the way, the second video is indeed his own work. He's a flight sim freakazoid and captures footage of flights he does in Microsoft Flight simulator, then transcodes them into a Mac friendly codec, then copies them from Windows to Mac, then imports them into iMovie or FCP X and cuts them to music. He does all of this completely by himself, so that second video really is all him. Feel free to check out his other flight sim movies on his youtube channel sammyflyboy. He'll cherish every single hit! My personal favorite is: Taking Flight by SammyFlyBoy

Third video he linked to is simply one of his favorites that he wanted to share -- a little something called "Rotate your Owl". Well worth watching if you haven't already.

I totally agree. I nominate that for the very best first Reduser post ever! To be 12 years old, using EPIC and have the wherewithal to rickroll with your very first post.

I'd be a proud dad too.

Hilarious.

Am I the only one that thinks that, if it indeed was a rickroll, shows disrespect for the community and father endorsing such a behavior in a 12 year old is doing his son disservice? Excuse me but I have a 13 year old and feel strongly about these issues as I deal with them every day...

Er... Um... WTF? The plate exists. It's part of the backpack battery module. You can get the v-mount plate with the proper EPIC connector on it in that pack. All they have to do is sell it separately. What if I need to buy a replacement? What happened to the battery plate in the store (the one that had the RED One connector on it)??? I've bought those before. I'm confused.

Not yelling at you, Shawn. I'm just confused...

I need this too, for use in a housing and maybe for dual power on the 3D rig - and even if I was okay with paying $650 for the backpack plate, I would have to take off the backpack aluminum piece anyway. Talked to IDX but they don't want to mess with it ... Might be easier to switch to Anton Bauer - or buy some v-plates from china and the LEMO and make our own. Do we have to get approval for that too? - what are the rules?

They used to have the Red One Battery Plate for $175. I got a couple to use as a temporary measure (with the adapter cable) for the Epic. When I went to order another, they weren't there anymore. I was told that it's been discontinued.

I considered getting the ET IDX plate, but with the way the connector comes out of the back I can't get it as low profile as I'd like. Here's another vote for the simple Epic battery plate sold separately from the backpack dovetail.

Jacek,

Everyone has different values. I thought that it was an interesting response to sine who described him (I think in a friendly way) as a scared looking kid. His response, to come back with a rickroll was subtle and humourous and, to be fair, defending himself in a pool full of sharks.

All in all if you read it as light hearted, I just picked up my camera, tpye of humor then I don't feel there is any disrespect going on.

We all take ourselves fairly seriously at times but I felt this was one of those times to have a good laugh.

Your take us fair too as I could see a parents perspective too.

Cheers,
David.

Welcome to REDuser Sam Cordell! That was my first rick-roll encounter, LOL And given the circumstances, I have to say "Touche"... The REDuser board is pretty fantastic.... But, like any where on the net, sometimes communication can get cloudy.....

The last time I saw Sam he was jamming with my friend Jeff Ross, a world class professional guitarist... Sam played piano, and sounded great. Looks like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.... Because just like his father, Sam is incredibly bright, talented, and very cool. If all kids, or people in general, were more like Sam, this world would be a much better place.

No disrespect intended. Just light-hearted humor in response to light-hearted humor. It does have a place on this board, for both adults and kids.

To any who got rick-rolled (sounds like you didn't) and it took it as disrespectful, please accept our sincere apology, cause that sure isn't where it was coming from. And hopefully many people enjoyed it.

no worries John- just my opinion. Guess that's why you live in Hollywood and I live in Thousand Oaks
Cheers....

Heh! No worries on my side either -- and I still love your lens support and handle for my Red 18-85 zoom and haven't begun dismantling it in protest -- yet!

I just LOOOVE that rickroll now......:wink5:

Click on the link.

But. It is a gag that makes you think that you are going to watch a video, you click the link and end up watching 1980's obe hit wonder sensation RIck Astley sing, "never gonna give you up".

When that happens, you have been rickrolled. It's been done on cd's disks, DVDs etc. As well.

That's a shockingly good point (why didnt I think of that??) in that Red already has proper vmount 1B plates... Red, can you please sell us these like your old plates without the Backpack hardware?

Hey John, Congrats! Any chance that we'll see some footage and or stills shot with your new toy any time soon?

Hey John, Congrats! Any chance that we'll see some footage and or stills shot with your new toy any time soon?

Thanks. If I get something cool I'll definitely share it. Since it's the same camera as the Epic-M, and there's plenty of that footage around, I didn't feel the need to post some stuff right away.

The 300fps at 2K is pretty great, and it's something I hadn't played with on my Epic-M. My son (sorry to keep dragging him into this!) did a cool experiment using the camera. He shot drops of water landing into a glass of water, and at 300 fps you can see rebound droplets bounce back out of the water. We wondered whether the liquid that came back out of the water was the original drop going in. So he filmed a drop of green food dye landing into a glass of water at 300 fps. Very cool, and it appears that the drops that emerge from the water are nearly 100% comprised of the liquid that was dropped in (they look as dark as the incoming drops, anyway). Science! Plus the cloud of swirling food dye looks great at 300 fps as well. Art!

I'd like him to reshoot it at a faster shutter speed to make it look better by reducing motion blur -- but once I do I'll share that fotoage.

The camera is incredible, can't wait for everybody to get theirs.
