  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1st X......

Now tell us...the other customer in the back of the picture, did he have a "bad attitude"? ;-)

hahaha... took me about five minutes to see that poor dude. i was wondering whose truck and everything else was out back, then... i saw him.

One of the quickest ways to tick off directors and especially DPs is to have the camera being used for playback. When budget allows, video assist should always be in the plan as it allows camera department to do their jobs while clients watch playback and "discuss".

Obviously, budget plays a role as Albert mentions. Video assist can have some cost savings though, even on smaller budget projects.

Oh, and of course having playback as an option on the camera is no doubt necessary. Don't want to dismiss it entirely. So good news that it's coming soon.

As long as the video out ports are enabled, There is always video assist that severs this purpose well.
Having your main camera used as a playback device is really bad idea.
I guess on smaller sets you don't have much choice...

i'm biting my tongue as hard as I can.... but guys... seriously.

None of my jobs are small, and I think completely the opposite.
But hey... everyone has different ways of doing things. :)))))

I'm so confused on power options! Does stage 2 come with the power adapter cable so we can actually run it? If it doesnt, I'd like to just buy a couple vmount plates (the naked kind that i can attach to my Quickplate, NOT the Backpack) since those are only $200 apiece, makes no sense to go buy a bunch of adapter cables when buying the proper vmount plate is the same cost. Help! anyone? Shawn needs more info, I was getting my final order ready and it didnt include any of this because the Red store says the Red batt plates work on Epic...

@Wingrove: Yeah I watched them. I figured he got inspired by what I saw him do at CampRED, and instead ... I got Rick-rolled :)

Okay, got my rep guy on the phone (very helpful, thanks Chris!) and he explained that as of yet, no Epic compatible vmounts are being made, apart from that Backpack one in limited order.

So Qs for Red...
-When will there be a simple Epic vmount plate that I can put on the Quickplate?
-When will there be an Epic Battery Belt clip?

Hello, Sam's dad here. Thought I'd jump in and explain. Sam really just wanted to rick-roll the guy who said he looked "frightened" in the picture. Note that he didn't take offense at the comment, he thought it was funny.

I must say I couldn't be more proud as a father -- I think a twelve year old rick-rolling on his very first post here on RedUser was pretty impressive.

By the way, the second video is indeed his own work. He's a flight sim freakazoid and captures footage of flights he does in Microsoft Flight simulator, then transcodes them into a Mac friendly codec, then copies them from Windows to Mac, then imports them into iMovie or FCP X and cuts them to music. He does all of this completely by himself, so that second video really is all him. Feel free to check out his other flight sim movies on his youtube channel sammyflyboy. He'll cherish every single hit! My personal favorite is: Taking Flight by SammyFlyBoy

Third video he linked to is simply one of his favorites that he wanted to share -- a little something called "Rotate your Owl". Well worth watching if you haven't already.

Jon...that doesnt work without an adapter, and I want one that has the proper Epic lemo to start with.

To translate, I want vmount plates and vmount battery belt setups with the 1B connector. Red?

No worries, John. It was a pleasure meeting you briefly and having Sam at camp.
Congrats on your X.

@Shawn:
Frankly, I didn't pay attention to the difference. I saw that said it worked for the EPIC and R1. In fact, we just ordered one under the assumption it worked for both in anticipation of our X. Thanks for pointing that out.

Time to email my bomb squad rep to clarify it all before the shipment goes out. :)

Had the chance to meet with John and Sam when they were in singapore with the epic M for one of my shoots. Awesome blokes. :)

I see now, but thats still an expensive $900 solution for what should cost $200, a simple vmount battery plate with a lemo

$200?? have you bought a lemo recently? You couldn't make your own for $200

The ET stuff I linked is bad ass...Ive had mine for several years and still works like new. Its made by IDX, and the component quality is the best I've found anywhere and I have dozens of various plates.
