  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1st Scarlet....

If you follow my twitter feed, this will be old news but we just wrapped day 2 of possibly the world's first feature film to begin principal photography with the Red Scarlet X.
I have been so busy so my 1st impressions article has been a bit delayed. I will work on releasing it next week. I will share my experiences with the camera, share more footage and R3ds.
So far so good on Scarlet. It has been running like a champ the past two days and has been creating brilliant images.

Oh! So that's what a top handle is for :) Nice rigging Tonaci! Looking forward to what you are shooting.

Quick question - how much runtime are you getting off those 90wh vmounts?
Ballpark.

Thanks - looks like you're having a blast, Tonaci.

lol, right at the limit! Thanks Tonaci. Does anyone know if a stedicam rated for 10lb has a hard cut off at that weight? If not, what occurs as you overload it? Does it just reduce its stability?

Here's a pic of my experiment with flying an Epic with my Glidecam X-10.. Some may say it's sacrilege to do so, but if flying this cam with a light rig is wrong... I don't want to be right! lol!

Hey Tonaci, Thanks for all the great pics and info-- don't know how I would be dealing with Scarlet wait without you.

While we're grilling you on gear, I was wondering what box you are using for XLR -> stereo inputs. This is something I am irrationally worried about.
Thanks again, sir!

Looks like Wooden Camera A-Box, if so: how do you like it?

Just wondering what rail mounts and bottom plate you are using on this setup? Are they RED's.

I am trying to decide on accessories to buy and I like what you had setup in this pic.

It looks like Wooden gear to me. I know for a fact the Top Handle and XLR Adaptor is from Wooden. The Top Plate, Bottom Plate/Riser and Rod Brackets appear to be as well.

Adding 50% more weight is not recommended
Adding anything over the max load capacity of the unit is not recommended in general, not 50, not 25 percent, but I fly my pilot with the 15Lb setup for three years and it feels good;
the weakest point is a gimbal, not the arm or sled, but so far i do not have any complications;
i am not a member of any association, but I wear my rig often and long hours;
Having those extra pound could work if properly adjusted, but it will not increase stability unless added to the top and bottom of the unit
of course it has to be balanced, but talking about the weight it's simple - more weight means more inertia, more inertia means more stable unit, i didn't invent this, it's physics,

can't wait to start flying my Scarlet

Timur - your sig is no slouch.

The #6 is lucky to me. I hope I get scarlet #66, or #16, #26, #36 etc.....

The post seems to have disappeared.... But I was sayimg I like brandonjf's sig. Scarlet #6 is awesome.

More footage

More footage

Has any besides Tonaci posted footage that I may have missed? Still starving for some low light and overcranked samples.

Thanks.

After Day 3 wrapped on our feature film, i got adventurous and jumped on the back of a moped late at night - shooting night exteriors around the city. This was shot at f2.8 with a 24mm L lens. Iso 1280. This basically represents what my eye is seeing. We were moving fast and I had the Red Scarlet in DSLR mode with handgrip. I am working on a real nice article with many samples you guys are asking for. I'll try to get it out in the next 3-4 days. As I mentioned before, I will be able to share some select scenes from the feature we are doing. =)
