  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

1st Scarlet....

As would I, if possible...

Thanks in advance.

Any chance of getting the RAW R3D files of either the first or second shots? Would like to check out the detail and stuff at full res without any color grading.

Deanan - One think I haven't figured out is whether compression is harder on the system, or easier, relative to overall ASIC performance. In other words, does pushing the compression higher (say, 10:1 vs, 6:1) make it harder to squeeze higher frame rates or would that make it easier to do so. Thanks in advance if you can clear up my confusion. :cheers2:

It's harder at some levels and easier at others and not a simple formula as compression ratio = fps.
There are about 10 things to balance and keep under the limits from sensor processing to memory bandwidth to compression to monitor pipes, etc.
Increase one a bit and you blow your budget.

Lorenzo you hit the nail on the head awesome natural skin tones....great!!

Tonaci, I'm not sure how your finding time to do all this whilst travelling but it's fantastic. A big thankyou!

The chart shows the lowest RC you can go at that framerate.
The highest RC is still 18:1 for all the modes.

Deanan, am I understanding the chart correctly, that the max resolution to shoot 24P or 25P w/ HDRX is 3K?

Thanks, Deanan. I figured it was probably a little complicated. I figure that's a good thing; RED does "complicated" pretty darn well!!! So, if there's any way to squeeze out more performance, I am sure you guys will do it.

Thank you for all the hard work Deanan.

How about 96 fps at 1.5 K ? Pretty please

This would make me so happy too! Seems reasonable since Scarlet does 60p2K and 120p1K...cant justify 1k resolution for most things...but 720p ish at 96fps would work for any web deliverable work just fine!

Today, I am visiting family who live in the countryside of Vietnam. This portrait was shot 4K 24fps on Scarlet X. My third video will be up later on tonight featuring people. I will upload this R3D so you can apply your own look to this photo. This, to me, hits home the DSMC concept.

Fourth video will cover low light situations. More to come. =)

Absolutely gorgeous! That's the best looking bokeh I have ever seen - incredibly sharp, yet creamy and velvety like nothing I've seen. And the resolution! From a frame grab? Wow! I'm totally on board!

Heh heh.

Google Red Milk Girls.

That's like one of the first things from the R1 years ago, original M sensor.

Thanks for posting this though Tonaci - Looks great man.

Thanks for the attention Tonacci.
Always welcome.
Cheers

Peter Staubs. Thanks for posting redlcine-X of flowers. Amazing. I've been on this site for 3 years and have been on the fence about Red for all that time until I saw that footage. Thats what I am talking about! My deposit for a Scarlet will be sent in tomorrow. Now all I have to do is get you to grade my footage!

Sorry if I'm repeating questions, but what lens did you use on that portrait, Tonaci? And how heavily color graded is it? Beautiful work.. makes me very excited to own a Scarlet soon!

I have this theory that the somewhat less precise still lenses (compared to ultra primes or master primes), such as good Nikon glass, will be a good match for the laser sharp RED, when it comes to trying to create organic, filmic looking images.

He used a canon 85mm L. F1.2 set at 2.8
