  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

18-85mm

Okay, personally I'm a little choked at the timing.

I waited as long as I could before ordering the 18-50.

I knew my notification was today, so I reserved my 18-50 a couple of days ago...now this...not twelve hours after sending out the next batch of e-mails!?

Very convenient indeed.:angry2:

so change your order, it's not as if your camera has been delivered. you have plenty of time. you should be dancing in the streets.

i'm amazed at how quickly people are to react, without doing the most basic research on these issues...

Fresh sheet of paper design, T2.9, weighs under 10 lbs, available in feet or meters, wicked sharp- $9975

Very nice! What I've been waiting for. Will it have witness marks? Barrel length? Internal zoom and focus?

Looking lovely. How about hitting us up with a 10 mil or a 10-20mm? :)

Even a lot of great prime sets lack lenses in that range.

I have to say the first thing that came to mind when I saw the picture was:

"You've got to ask yourself one question.. do I feel lucky."
"Well do you punk?"

Guess the most important thing to know is if this one has got super-sweet ultra-smooth mechanics like RED 300 mm or the so-so mechanics like RED 18-50 mm.
Also guess if future 18-50 mm will get better as far as mechanics are concerned ...

Looks beautiful, still ok for hand held, or do you think it,ts getting a little heavy for that?

It's like buttah!
Very very very smooth.

Just to be clear:

this is the lens I originally ordered, and probably the 1st Red lens I'll have...

Anyhow.

Great to see it's finally coming!

Dylan... I hope you are kidding. let me see, how can we wait for the right minute to piss off one of our customers.

We have the 1st two upstairs... Jarred and I have no connection whatsoever to the order desk. Nor do we want to piss off anyone. This lens was announced over a year ago. It is still a couple of months away from delivery.

All of you that want the 18-85mm over the 18-50mm, please be advised. This 18-85mm is a big lens. I personally will carry both with me.

Jim

Hey Jim

I was kidding...It was just inconvenient timing FOR ME!

I know you don't conspire to try to piss me off.

Just thought it was inconvenient timing (for all us in the 1250-1500's)...12hrs after the e-mail was sent out.:waaa:

Regarding weight, I said the same thing to a friend...the 18-85 is a heavy lens...the 18-50 is way more convenient for "run 'n gun"

MUCH RESPECT...I can't wait to get my camera.

THANK YOU!

Nice.

Does it have a lens support or does it support itself?

The part I'm excited about is that the can design appears to match the 300mm prime [note the width of the gearing and the lens finish] instead of the 18-50mm. I hope you said goodbye to whoever built the housing for the 18-50mm and the 50-150mm and stick with whoever made the 300mm prime for this zoom and the prime set.

Is it a true T2.9 all the way through or is there vignetting?

Any word on witness marks and focus throw? This is clearly a housing designed from the ground up... I hope the helicoid/cam system is such that we get well-spaced marks.

Can't wait to see a less spooky picture... glad to see the lens is finally a reality.

Like silk. As good or better than the 300mm. Shown at NAB (yes you can paw). Too big for me to handhold, but I'm getting old.

True T2.9.

Not to pull the thread astray, but will the primes be made by the same housing manufacturer as the 300mm and the 18-85mm?

How light is the grease in the lens? The 300mm is smooth as hell, but its grease is a little thick.
