Well, you better allow some front clearance, you don't want to poke "anything" when you crank it out. Wait, what are we talking about again?

:) :) Totally missed!

Actually I like to get the girls as close to the front element as possible and getting them as far as the background as possible as to allow me to isolate the subject from everything else as much as I can.

So accidents of the above kind as you mention do happen:)

BTW: KETCHFRAME is getting this Beast very, very soon in house, ( possibly several of them ) so will post some Clips and frame grabs from the trailer of "UNCONDITIONAL" I already know that the skin tones on this baby will come out a beuty, and this lens is replacing the LWZ with whcih this was to be shot, and possibly I will take the challenge and shoot the entire movie onthis lens never to come out from the "A" camera! While we will be using few MP's on cameras "B" and "C", I'm confident that the RED 18-85 will intercut with the MP's just beautifully but will off course do a test prior to starting Principal Photography!

ciao

We do have a bracket that will be ready early November.
I cannot stress enough, the absolute NEED for a proper support with this lens.
This "beast" weighs in at 10 lbs. and is quite front heavy.
Without any support, this lens will definitely place a great deal of stress on the camera mount, affecting backfocus. I'm not just saying this to get people to buy support brackets.

I posted a thread a while back showing why this is necessary:

Previous post:
Hmm...
As a vague general rule, I would say:
Try holding the lens in the same position it goes onto your camera mount, with just your fingers.
If you can't do it, you need to support your lens. (please don't drop your lenses)

Obviously this rule isn't concrete.
Use common sense and when in doubt, support the lens anyway.
Play it safe.

That's a great rule of thumb, Matthew.
A long time ago, I was out of town at a rental house (Detroit? Cincinnati?) prepping a location job with some 35mm camera (BL or Arri 3) The package included both a 200mm Nikon (although I had one, all the gear was coming from the rental house) and the Zeiss 10mm (which I think was new at the time)
The prep tech walked over with a low support for the 200mm. I said thanks, but no big deal, I likely wouldn't use it, as we were just sitting still on a tripod, and being on primes, going without a support would mean faster lens changes. He turned red in the face and insisted that we could not take the gear unless I PROMISED to use the support ("because the stress will damage our lens mount", etc. etc.) I asked him to hold the 10mm in one hand and the 200mm in the other and tell me which was heavier, and whether it made sense requiring me to use support on the LIGHTER of the two. He conceded that his request was somewhat arbitrary.
Common sense, folks!
Cheers,
Harry

With $1,000 down, when is the total balance due? Would there be monthly payments or is the entire amount due upon delivery?

I might be speaking out of turn but, after your 10% deposit you can make payments into your account and must make full payment at time of delivery.

Another handful of emails are going out today. You are in that one, Donatello, you were right on the edge of the cutoff :)

thanks Brent
got the EMAIL today at 2PM for #37 ...
as they say it's in the mail ( in the fedex just doesn't have the same flow) ....

Finner is actually working. He hasn't had time to hang out with all of us losers lately.

Yes I am very busy these days.

None of you are losers. (well maybe a few.)

Miss ya guys

A long shot and I 'write' this in an almost unaudible tone.. ahem.. is there an exchange program where we can send our 18-50 lens and get the 18-85? Of course we will pay the difference.
