  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

18-85 T2.9 RED zoom...

Mark, can we get some pics of someone shoulder carrying the Red with this lens and a matte box?

You haven't received your lens?

I haven't ordered one (I own the 18-50). I'm too massively in debt from the original Red purchase to think about a $10k lens at this moment :-).

Hi Shawn,

You could have got $80,000 for your camera a year ago!

Hi,

That's the sort of offers that were floating around at the time. I would have sold if I had had a low reservation no.

A $18k camera for $80k, nice premium.

Hi,

I understand the premium offered was $80,000 on top of the $17,500 purchase price.

Stephen who shot 2 days with a RED & 2 days 35mm last week!

guess it.. more an abrev for your collection.. ehehehehehe

HA!

$80K premium for a RED One... Hmmm. I suppose it *could* have happened, but I doubt it ever really did or was a serious offer. Aside from that making no logical sense, I think the highest premium I ever saw was that first public ebay sale. About a $20K premium if I remember. And even that was insane. Let's face it, that $80K would have paid for your own RED one and a heck of a lot of rentals between then and getting your own camera, which if you placed an a year ago, you would have your camera now.

As far as I'm concerned, that's completely apocryphal BS

Hi Shawn,

I seem to remember you saying you would not sell your camera for any price at the time. Off Hollywood required insurance for the body of $80,000 being it's replacement value. There were other threads sugesting the body alone would rent for upto $2000 a day, I am sure a search will find the threads I am refering to.

What's money for?

What's money for?

I was, in fact, offered $100K for #19 in the fall of 2007. My guess, is that had I actually sat down across the table from the guy, he would have tried to negotiate the price down. I should also note that after the first couple of conversations the guy just stopped calling. I always figured he found another early owner more willing to part with their rig.

FWIW, after initially thinking I would be a fool to pass up the quick profit, I decided #19 was too special to me to sell. Money comes and money goes (particularly now:help: ) but being a part of the amazing journey the Red Leader wrought was worth far more. Is it stupid to get emotional about a camera? Probably - but I am a diagnosed camera geek and the RedOne is the most amazing imaging tool I have had the pleasure of spending serious time with. With top optics out front the RedOne can produce stunning images - what would money be better spent on than that? Hookers and blow are great but eventually your nasal passages are trashed and you have multiple STDs, at least that's what Finner told me :holloween:

It's my understanding that the first of these spots will air during GOSSIP GIRL on Monday night - all RED PRO 18-85mm.

I'm feverishly redesigning and rebuilding my blog with Wordpress & Flickr - won't launch the redux until mid/late next week - and then it will be much easier for me to post clips and frames -

Gah! I dont care to hijack Jim's cool thread about a great new lens with old stuff about what Reds were going for. I don't care what others were offered. Here is my fact...
FACT: Shawn Nelson, Red #27, was offered no sum of money, at any time, for Red #27. That said, I was not interested in selling.

Now back to the lens, have I missed a picture of it being shoulder-mounted?
