  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

17-50mm RED Pro Zoom...

Looks really fun, wish i could do that
what's that shoot for? seems very exciting, something i would want to check out whenever its done:-P

Thanks for clearing that Mitch. Daniel tried but could not find it in the catalog. If it's not usable with the MMB1, just as well I guess.
Still don't quite see why we can't use the 143/143 bellows with the 17-50?
How does it differ from using the 138/114 and 18-50?
Am I missing something?

George, the shoot was a Ford commercial.

The difference is that the 17-50 has a 144mm front diameter, while the 18-50 has a 114mm front. There's nothing to step down to, so no room for a bellows.

Jeff, that is correct but Clayton was asking about the 143mm bellows back filter stage which I couldn't find in Arri's catalog even with all the help from kind folks at AbelCine. I still have the 138 - 114mm bellows that I loved using with RPP's but is now sitting in my case.

The 143mm back clamp fits on the 17-50 nice, though I did put on a sliver of tape around the edge of the lens to insure the solid grip.... it's because I put it on the sketchy contraptions like this :)

Here are some links to the Ford spots that Milan and I shot for Mad Media. You can see why I say Milan has some serious balls.

What really amazes me with this lens is the close focus even at 50mm...:

If I was ever so limited for what ever reason - this is the first lens I can honestly say I would be able to shoot an entire feature on...

Definitely my No.1 favorite lens now (thanks to MX sensitivity)!

Love the use of the macbook, Peter...

I needed a quick back-fill for the whisky - and man gotta do what man gotta do...

But seriously, I am going to look for a director/producer crazy enough to let me shoot entire feature on this lens alone to prove how amazing and versatile it is...

I can't wait for the 50-150 RPZ... Together with the Duclos 11-16 one would get the coverage from 11mm to 150mm in three compact and lightweight zooms...

This zoom lens is just amazing.

I have to agree with you guys, this lens has made a believer out of more than
one of the DP's I work with who up until now have been strictly primes.
The 17-50 is light sharp and built very well.

It is a lens worth at least twice the price.

50mm-150mm RPZ new to me

50mm-150mm RPZ new to me

Just wondering if I have missed something some where on the talk of a new RPZ 50-150mm I have the new 17-50mm and if there is a big brother to it Ill take one right now.
Let me know if anyone has any info on this.

Nope - nothing has been announced. But it is a logical conclusion/expectation - if they went and redesigned from scratch the 17-50, 50-150 (or what ever the equivalent will be) can't be too far behind...

Thanks for the pics Peter! I'm really wanting to add this lens to my RPP set.

I notice on the website that this lens isnt up at all. What's up with that?

Also I thought I read that Jim confirmed this lens covers 5k on EpicX but I can't find that in this thread. Where is it? Or did I imagine that? 5k coverage is a big deal for me on lenses, that was a driving factor to get rid of my old 18-50

okay, last question, has anyone figured out how to buy a 139mm optical flat screw-on for the front? that was nice about the old lens was that it only needed like a 58mm or something
