  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

They were obviously given preference as a business because they sell displays. It's nothing to get worked up about. You'll get the revised player, probably later this year around the holidays.

You can add me to that list as well. After using 22 inch 4k displays for years which I don't consider quite to be retina I think there is a great need for 8k displays (even 16k at larger sizes) to make resolution really not matter anymore and for things to be truly retina.
 
Seiki Pro line revealed for CES 2014, but I have no idea what exactly that entails from the preliminary spec sheets other than finish... they really need to say more than Gen 2 to win people over as the court is now flooded with plenty of other options for 2014... Seiki 4K is 3840 х 2160

But we have content from Red with 5К (5120 x 2700) and 4К (4096 х 2048)

So when we play 5К (5120 x 2700) and 4К (4096 х 2048) what will see we at Seiki?

And if buy Seiki can we see 4K or 5K from Red from hard disk or is it needs Red ray?
 
Hi, just checking in. Has anybody found a ultra HD p50 display solution for the 50 or 39 inch seikis yet?

p50 as in 50Hz? Check new soon to be released Seiki Pro line. Supposedly 1.4 hdmi at launch but firmware upgradeable to hdmi 2.0 later on. A bit costlier then current Seiki lineup. Not much help though if source PC/Mac, as no current gpus are hdmi 2.0 capable and most UHD TVs but Panasonic's have no Display Port.
 
p50 uhd mode on the machine..Panssonic does have display port.

Does the pro sieki use the higher spec and speed version of hdmi2a or b with less modes.

Any link to the Seiki Janis?

I hear that the new Vizio cheap screens are the best, does anybody know what other brands have them rebranded too? We can't get them here..
 
Wayne: google for Seiki Pro. There are already other TV manufacturers/brands making ones with HDMI 2.0, but as this thread is about Seiki, or a little bit more general - about relatively cheap chinese made UHD TVs, then that Seiki Pro line up might be closer to this thread.
IIRC Seiki Pro is very similar to Seiki line, just might have better scaler, HW capable of HDMI 2.0 (thus 60p & 50p capable if you have such input and Seiki will make new firmware (HDMI 1.4 firmware at launch)) and higher price. Don't know of a or b variants for HDMI 2.0. Wasn't it for HDMI 1.4?
Oh when there will be at least one UHD TV not more then 1.5x expensive then Seiki but with Displayport like Panasonic? :(
I don't need HDMI 2.0 i have no way to use fully with my pc or laptop, but DP is just for said (expensive) Panasonic or non-TV UHD monitors that have unacceptably low for me display size (like 24"-28"-31.5") for said resolution :(

Which version/manufacturer did you use for the 5450 to get the 3840x2160 to boot? I ordered a 1GB version, and it came with HDMI 1.3 and would not push those specs. Thanks!
 
BTW, wasn't Seiki US only brand? (though IIRC resold under different name in EU (was it Andersen or DNS or something like that)). - Imho you guys should gather all the possibly compatible TVs with this new board TVs to rise volumes from world-wide customers, not just for US ones and very few willing to overpay a lot for shipping heavy TVs over pond. Bigger production volume most probably will get individual price down. Even better if this board will work with all the cheap chinese UHD TVs out there from whatever brand, not just Seiki's rebrands.
 
Seiki is in Australia too, and I have a Seiki bluray in front of me from years ago. OEM sets get rebadged by different manufacturers.

Update 1: 4K and higher res Medium Format Photos look very good on the panel, as well as HD sources. Looks like a good inexpensive option for a UHDTV Computer Monitor. It is a basic panel, has inexpensive audio, two USB ports support playback of music and photos (Sorry, no video via USB). It has a scaler to fit height or width, and appears to give you back what you feed it... Garbage in/garbage out, etc.

BIGGEST PERK: IT'S PORTABLE!! Yes, it's slim and light enough for 1 person to move around. So far, it is an absolute steal at $1299 for April 2013 (the only other alternatives to buy today are over $10,000) ...

You need to feed it an UHDTV signal over HDMI to get "4K" display of video. We have not had a chance to calibrate it yet, but it does look like a typical TFT LED display, however with 4K resolution. Moving onto video display at UHDTV resolution next rounds...


UPDATE 2: Running computer desktop at 3840x2160 at 30p, no complaints so far. If anybody has a RedRay player and picks up this set, let us know the maximum refresh rates you are able to get and I'll update this post. I recommend also putting the audio setting at Music and Surround to get better sound as a starting point. I also highly recommend an extended warranty, as with any new tech like this as it's really worth the extra protection for so little added cost. So far, we have the best bargain of the year with this $1299 panel.

UPDATE 3: What's better than UltraHD? Same UltraHD picture, lower price! Tigerdirect.com is now unbelievably offering this set with online coupon code for $1199.99 if you search around online... enjoy!

Update 5: Though not a 3D set, 3D content does display on the set as 1920 x 2205 at 24p , currently using in-house LG BluRay 3D player. You can clearly see the horizontal edges of the content with extra room on both sides. Warner Bros. needs to re-release the Hobbit on a 48fps HFR Blu Ray disc ASAP ...

About your "Update 5: Though not a 3D set, 3D content does display on the set as 1920 x 2205 at 24p"..What glasses did you use to check 3D play back what all do you need to watch 3D movies with this seiki TV..Just bought this Seiki SE50UY04 4K locally new for 299.99 this past saturday it was a display model also bought the Seiki SE39UY04 4K display model for 199.99 going to use it as my new PC monitor..I gave a lot more than that for my 24" ASUS 1080P monitor..
 
It was a long while back when we tried it out, no longer have the BluRay player in-house. We did it out of curiosity more than anything else, as it was never listed as accepting 3D anywhere in the specs and we weren't certain if there actually was a way to get useable 3D out of it- which we couldn't...
 
So my Korean 27" 2560x1440 monitor just died on me and I need to get something soon. I have been holding out for a 4K monitor with HDMI 2.0, but so far no dice. DisplayPort doesn't help since I need to run a cable about 15' to get from the PC to the display.

Amazon has the Seiki 39" for $399. Now that I'm shooting 30p the 24hz issue shouldn't be a problem except for older footage. Should I go for it or is this a complete waste of time?

Nick .. *Exactly* which "Radeon HD 5450 with 512MB RAM." Was this card? I just ordered an XFX Radeon HD 5450 HD545XZQHV but was wondering exactly what you had used so I would make things work for sure. I have to keep power consumption down to a minimum as this is on a SFF Dell machine.

Ok ... I can confirm the "XFX Radeon HD 5450 HD545XZQHV Video Card - 1GB, DDR3, PCI-Express 2.1, 1x Dual-link DVI-I, 1x VGA, 1x HDMI, DirectX 11, Heatsink, Low Profile (P450-5451 )" will output to the Seiki 39" at 3840x2160 but it doesn't do it 'Stock' so to speak. Also you should note that while this IS a low profile, single wide card and will work in most chassis that require such a card, it does not include a low profile bracket which I purchased separately. I am using this in a Dell Optiplex 755 SFF chassis so it will work within the power constraints of that chassis (or at least it has for me so far).

I went the ATI (amd) site and downloaded the latest driver for win 8.1 32 bit which is: 14-4-win7-win8-win8.1-32-dd-ccc-whql.exe (I'll report back when I load the 64 bit version of Windows 8.1 but that will be a bit.)

Rebooted

Then right clicked on the desktop and selected the newly recommended resolution of 3840x2160 @ 30 - and was amazed!!!

Thanks for the notes Bruce. Driving the first gen Seikis nice and stable has not been a walk in the park. Odd timing issues and I/O peculiarities like different physical HDMI inputs acting differently than others, high signal strength requirements, etc. Properly calibrated and driven they can do credible rec 709, but its hardly plug and play.

The gen 2 units are supposed to be better at least in terms of inputs (HDMI 2) and calibration tools, but I haven't had a play yet.

Perhaps Neil Smith at HollywoodDI can provide the RedUser community with the latest news…

Hey guys, the 4K Seiki prices are ridiculously low now, so I guess they're getting rid of the generation 1 sets to make room for the next generation 4K TVs. Having said that, any way to utilize the full 4K resolution form these gen 1 TVs with an Nvidia Titan or GTX780 video card?
