  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

10 Scarlet Questions with Joseph Hutson... Take 2.

Currently we are focusing on producing the focal lengths we have already announced.

i'm shure there is a post in which i can read, which lenses are planned but i can't find it. :-(
can you answer which focal length are planned ?

thx and greets from austria

you gave up pretty quick.. its the 5th post.

...
Thanks for the stabilization answer. I guess with Premiere and FCP X, prosumer or not, including automatic stabilization the writing is on the wall for in-camera systems.

Did Apple ever reach out to you guys about FCP X R3D support? I'm prosumer enough to really like a lot of things about the new program.

David

In-camera stabilisation is still desirable if possible as post stabilisation does not reduce motion blur and sacrifices some resolution.

According to another thread, apparently Apple did NOT reach out to incorporate R3D support in FCPX.

I'm confused about the news spreading "officially" online, that Red is working closely with Red at this time for a solution. If not, then there might be more lies about FCPX floating around.

But now for a question...

I did a count on how much the SSD-mount, station and mag costs and it arrives at around $5000, is the price for a fixed Scarlet bumped up that much because of that? (I counted two 128gb cards).
Also, are there features that aren't available when shooting with a CF card compared to an SSD?

Great Q and A Thanks for all the answers to the questions, I'm also interested in the Scarlett when they come out. RED makes only quality products and the thing I love the most, is that RED listens to me as the filmmaker and enduser of their products I feel satisfied because RED delivers those products with the highest of standards.

Yes, thanks Jarred and Joseph. I can't wait! RED is the best!

If Apple releases a SDK or API for us to build a R3D plugin... we will support it.

You don't need to buy the SSD mount or cards for Scarlet if you do not want to... you can still use CF cards. Of course SSD's are much, much faster so the capabilities are higher with an SSD.. but now since you have that side SSD module as standard when you are ready to go from CF to SSD you are only a Card and a RED STATION away :)

Thanks Jarred and Joseph, this was so helpful and a I'm sure a very big confidence booster for anyone who was wondering if Scarlet had been put on the backburner.
I have a feeling this camera is going to be a LOT of fun :)

These questions seem a little premature but in the off chance you have tested them: (I also understand theres a lot of variables to take into consideration with these questions as well)

Do you an idea of how long a RedVolt will last in the Fixed Scarlet?

Also,

Do you an idea what kind of time we can expect to get out of a 64 or 128 or 256GB SSD?

Someone already asked but I also would like to know what kind of battery life we can expect out of the side handle battery?

Just to clarified. The Canon L series lenses and nikon lenses will work with a Canon or nikon adapter after the release right?

Just catching up on Reduser threads and saw this comment by Jarred...

"EPIC-S for example is new different hardware than the EPIC-X and EPIC-M is different hardware than Epic-X. its not like we are just putting different stickers on the same camera depending on the date :)".

Been offline for a bit and may have missed an anouncement, but I thought that the only difference between the Epic M & X was the titanium mount and a machined body. I was under the impression that the internal "hardware" was the same. Could someone let me know what's what here? Thanks

Yes, but the hardware going into EPIC-M's is being bought at a high price from suppliers due to the unfortunate events in Japan. Some parts costing 30 times what they used to be...

Thanks Joseph for the quick reply. Love you work and appreciate your time and effort to help us out here.

No problem.

Two reasons why I love being involved with REDusers on and even off of the forum:

(1) It's the people like you who appreciate what I do
(2) It's people like Jim, Jarred, Deanan, Graeme, Big Jon and many others who continue to pour their lives into mine as well.
