Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
FF coverage! Only $100 more than the dreadful (sorry, I love the 18-35mm f1.8, but not this one) Sigma! Hopefully the performance is awesome.
Would feel like a 12mm t1.3 or something with a speedster for those in s35 land. :)...
I need one, ONE! matte painting... need to paint out a product (think iPod) with a translucent cover into one that is matte white. For copyright purposes. Lit simply, but I am not a good painter. Could be easy in 3D or 2D for a good artist.
If you could paint the side of this iMac matte white...
I'm buying a Dreamcolor for grading (deciding between first and second generation) and its HDMI port only allows for use of the calibration engine when it receives RGB progressive.
The black magic cards (other than the 4k ultra studio, which is $1k) only output YUV, whereas most HDMI ports...
8 bit plus dithering vs 10 bit
can accept YUV vs requires RGB
Thoughts? For low end grading via HDMI with calibration (unpaid, I wouldn't charge on a low end workstation like that) and low end paid compositing work.
Which should I go with?
Can be dumb, no AF chip or aperture control.
What's the best one in terms of fit and finish? Want one I can remove ideally that also isn't super loose. Looking to buy a bunch so cheap is good lol. Thanks.
Would the HP Advanced Profiling solution be all that's needed to calibrate a dream color monitor so that the DVI input was good for photo editing and the HDMI input (fed through a black magic card) sufficient for basic color grading?
I was going to invest in a separate monitor for each, but if...
I have two lens kits, one of modern zooms (UWA Tokina, 18-35mm Sigma, 70-200mm Canon), one of old 1960s Nikkors, but for macro I just use macro tubes looks terrible.
I want a macro lens I can use for either kit. For the Nikkors I often use the tubes and the softness looks cool.
The Bokina is...
Currently I use a 17'' Panasonic field monitor (lowest end) and to be honest the off-axis color gets so bad that I don't care for it much. Left my job so now I need my own solution.
I was going to pick this monitor up so I could watch movies, but... I hear it's reference level, too? What would...
I am used to using external 3.5'' drives (or RAID arrays) for each project with one for backup, typically ESATA drives hooked up to Mac Pro ESATA cards.
However I am perfectly happy using USB3 WD My Passport Ultra 2.5'' portable drives (100MB read/write) or 2.5'' SSDs (400MB read/100MB write)...
Used these on one shoot (one and a half, actually), used for about two days, they are like new. Nice stands for the Dana Dolly, go pretty low and you can (apparently) undersling the camera so they go lower.

Shooting Super35 (4k) what lenses work with this?
What are the rear threads? How do they attach? Seems it should be compatible roughly with 52mm-threaded lenses?
Thinking of using old nikons... kit from 24mm to 135mm (all 52m threads) for a 3.56:1 final product.
What's going to cover...
I have hard cases (Pelican-style, mostly) for camera, lenses, etc.
For my light kit I have a hard case…
Big stuff (stands, HMIs, etc.) can live on its own on the shelf.
But for loose ends like an extra fresnel, soft box kit, extra bulbs, etc. what do people use as cases for organization...
Can only afford still lenses first of all. EF mount or adaptable.
Shooting something next week with old scratched up Nikon (AI and K) lenses... So far have the 24mm f2 (one of the worst of all time!); 28mm f2; 35mm f1.4; 50mm f1.4; 85mm f1.8; 135mm f2... Doing macro stuff with macro tubes...
For some poor man's/fill light stuff I need a lamp with the exact color temperature of high pressure sodium.
I use storaro yellow, bastard orange, whatever, cts/cto coctails, whatever to get the "look" but to match exactly...
Should I buy...
Doing some research for the company for which I work. Looking for quotes on Red Epic packages in Connecticut for the month of December. Not interested in Red MX or Scarlet.
Send me your contact info and I will pass it along to our producers, who are handling the rental. I am not involved in...
Any tips? Just sequence cool looking shots with interesting looks?
I've seen before/after wipes and even alternating between different possible looks.
Are any looks desirable? Should I put some "vintage" and some "high gloss" and Pleasantville effect, etc. in?
Curious what works. Thanks...
We have a 5770 on one machine and an 8800GT on the other.
Willing to upgrade hardware to a 2013 Mac Pro (base model) or a <$500 graphics card.
Will be working with primarily Alexa, F5, CX00, and 5k RAW Epic footage. Thanks. Primarily Alexa. Thanks. Want real-time performance of course... GT 680?
Finally I have a reel! Any idea how to get it in HD? Vimeo seems to only set it to SD.
I had too much material so anyone have any advice on what to cut or how to re-order? This is general-purpose, still not shooting enough yet to have reels for each genre or material.
