Can only afford still lenses first of all. EF mount or adaptable.

Shooting something next week with old scratched up Nikon (AI and K) lenses... So far have the 24mm f2 (one of the worst of all time!); 28mm f2; 35mm f1.4; 50mm f1.4; 85mm f1.8; 135mm f2... Doing macro stuff with macro tubes instead of proper macro lenses. Scratched rear element might be my favorite new diffusion/streak filter. :)

Need to get a fast UWA to match, 18mm or wider. Was thinking of using the 18-35mm f1.8 Sigma with a piece of monofilament to flare and 1/8 BPM to reduce contrast but was considering using one of those .7X wide angle adapters on the 28mm f2 Nikkor instead.

Anyone used one of those wide angle adapters for camcorders on Still lenses? I tried an adapter for the hvx on my 11-16mm Tokina... surprisingly worked great. Optical degradation is the point here and the 28mm f2 is a very good lens to begin with so can handle it.

Any recommendations?

Am I asking for trouble? Safer to go with the Sigma f1.8?

Tokina 17mm F/3.5 RMC might do the trick. It matches well with Nikon and you can get them on Ebay for 150-200.

Mainly Nikon mounts available. But if you have the Nikon Canon adapter you are good to go.

It's a really good lens.

Also Samyang 14mm if you want a F/2.8.. But the 17mm Tokina you can add filters to. Which is why I kept mine.

If the Tokina matches the Nikon MF primes I might have to pick one up to complete the set. Samyang 14mm I think is garbage for video, distortion renders it unusable and the look is clinical and flat... prefer both the Tokina 11-16mm and Sigma 18-35mm, both of which I own but are also too "clinical" for anything but corporate video.

Wondering if putting a wide angle adapter on the 28mm f2 AI wouldn't work best for this, though. We are lighting to an f2 at best... already going to 3200 ISO. Has anyone attempted such madness?

Obviously I just want a 18mm superspeed... lol.

Another to consider is the Zeiss Jena 20 2.8 MC. Great vintage wide that's not too expensive; quote well corrected distortion too. Otherwise all ultrawides that are full frame are going to be F4 or 3.5, and likely difficult to filter. That 17mm Tokina sounds interesting.

Also, out of curiousity...what's a "monofilament" filter? You mean a streak filter?

The Nikon 18mm is great but it's F4.
The Nikon 18mm F4 has a great vibe. It rounds off all the colors and keeps the shadows a little gritty. Definitely a real filmic look - it's a sweet lens but really doesn't match modern Nikons. Closer to old Zeiss or Hasselblad T*

The Nikon 18mm F/2.8 D is a great lens also. I picked one up Cheap on ebay. Very under rated lens.

I wrote the review with the pictures of the girl on the beach.. Samples are from full frame camera. On the Red it is incredible.

But I am still a fan of the Tokina 17mm for price performance and really matches well with Nikon glass.
