8 bit plus dithering vs 10 bit
can accept YUV vs requires RGB

Thoughts? For low end grading via HDMI with calibration (unpaid, I wouldn't charge on a low end workstation like that) and low end paid compositing work.

Which should I go with?

I'm thinking the same thing, leaning towards the z24x also for personal projects/small scale stuff that doesnt have the budget for a colorist.

one of the HP reps said over on LGG that there is not really much of a visual difference between 8bit+FRC and 10 bit, only some dithering etc in skies. i think the flanders website says the same.

I wonder if the image quality on the z24x is better or worse than on the 2480zx? I'm guessing it's a lower end panel on the new one but with better software.

The fact that I can use my intensity shuttle to run HDMI YUV to a calibrated display on the z24x is awesome, but wtf... calibration software is not OSX compatible and the display apparently doesn't look right except under the new version of Mavericks and I am running a Mountain Lion install so I can use the intensity shuttle USB 3.0 on the mac and legacy software.

Everything is a compatibility nightmare these days lol.

yeah, as devices and interfaces get more and more complex then the compatibility between them also becomes more complex too :/

I hope the OS X compatibility issue with the z24x is only temporary. They are brand new units and it usually takes a few months to hear back from the community and work out all the kinks.

As far as image goes, i think the only way is to see them side by side. But for 568 (BH price) you really cant go wrong even if it doesn't look "as good".

I can also get the old model (like new) for $400, but then I'd need the $500 "band aid."

Really not a fan of how much beta software and trouble shooting half-assed solutions there seems to be....

But I guess that's what I pay for in trying to save money.

pretty much :/

Im getting the z24x pretty soon, excited nonetheless. i think the worst case scenario i can just put it on a c-stand and use it as a non-critical on set monitor
