So does this mean that you wont be producing any more 16GB cards? Is that why theyre on a bundle deal at the mo? Surely not, as this would make the CF module a bit redundant?

It means that we'll be squeezing the maximum performance out of the 16GB cards in all the new cameras. The new cameras have more flexibility to maximize throughput and we'll be tuning to get the most out of those cards.
It's too early to say what the max redcode and frame rates the cards will be able to handle.

Jarred,

Could you tell me limit date to buy a RED ONE camera and have benefits of upgrade or EPIC-X program update?
I have some works next summer. Epic or scarlet S35 will arrive too late.....
Could you help me? possibility before the end of year yet?

Thank you. You have done a good job with all this camera project.

Antoine.

What will be the XXmm - XXXmm of the 8x Fixed Lens on the 2/3" Scarlet? And will you announce zoom lenses for it? As I shoot documentary, I really can't cope with fixing lenses all the time so I would like to have a 2/3" body with a proper zoom lens.

Can you tell me a bit more about my options? Thanks!

i think that is the whole point of the fixed scarlet so you are in luck. The Lens will be more than enough for what you need quality wise but if it is not wide or long enough for your needs you will have to get adapters like the ones made by century

You're in good company! I've been shooting on an XL1S for years, which I hope to replace with a Scarlet.

Same here. Still working with a Canon XL1. But also waiting and hoping for the RED Scarlet Fixed...

Red Ray Pro and USB 2

I was wondering if there wouldn't be benefits to using USB 3 connectors instead of the 2.0 connectors.

Monitor requirements for Scarlet

Monitor requirements for Scarlet

I seem to recall reading that for the Red One you had to have either a Red EVF or a Red monitor in order to read data from the unit. Can I assume that will be the same for the Scarlet? Assuming the answer is yes, how does one attached a field monitor to the unit?

REDMOTE PRO!?!?!

Ker - and may I say - blammo! You boys know how to deliver the goods. If this means we can start dreaming of something along the lines of a RED-PPU then I guess I'm saving my cash for two Reds now (at least).

In all seriousness, even with delays and changes etc, what you fellas at Red are doing is nothing short of a quantum leap forward not just in the technology of filmmaking but the actual ethos of how film does business. I love the waiting and the speculation and the surprises because you've re-introduced a genuine excitement about the moving image for people the must in some way be comparable to that of the early pioneers of the moving image.

My god, what a first post gush! I apologise, I'm new here. Keep up the good (hard) work chaps!

Multiple packages for the fixed lens Scarlet

Multiple packages for the fixed lens Scarlet

I read through all the posts and got a sense that there will be many people who will scrape together just enough to get the "base" Scarlet package, but also many who want the fixed with slightly different options. I would like to suggest that when you get to the point where you will actually be shipping to check back with the potential users and see if there might be another "deluxe" fixed Scarlet package that a large number of people might want.

For instance, I can see the advantage of adding the "Pro" version of the remote, but I wouldn't want to pay an additional $1750 to get it.

Thanks for your consideration!

Well, all pretty damn exciting.

I really hope Red will be in a position to start taking pre-orders for the first releases in the new year - it will then feel like reality! It will also show Red (in terms of $) the huge demand there is for the new cameras (I'm sure they already know...)

I put on hold buying a Red One when the Scarlet S35 specs were released. Summer 2010 seams a long way off now.

Keep up the good work (but hurry up!)

Thanks Jim, Jarred and team...

Sam

Wow, did I miss this earlier on an other thread?

Big deal when (I think) the last we heard was f/2.8 yet Jarred throws it in like chump change. So much going on, such insane cameras at such insane prices...

Wonder that the f/stop will be then? Red's got very good glass obviously, so probably not much bigger huh? f/2.5 maybe? I am curious to see what DoF will be like on the wide and normal range.

Hope you are all sleeping now. Rest makes you more productive. ;)

Because of the shorter focal lengths used on a 2/3" camera to match the field of view on a Super-35 camera, a 2.5X magnification factor, you have an effective increase of depth of field on a 2/3" camera as if you stopped-down by 2.5-stops compared to Super-35. In other words, shooting at f/2.8 on a 2/3" camera, once you match field of view, looks like an f/5.6-8.0 split on a Super-35 camera.

So how shallow you can make the depth of field on a 2/3" camera, just as with any camera, will be controlled by how wide-open your lens aperture goes. Let's just say that an f/1.5-stop on the Mini Prime is close to an f/1.4-2.0 split. Therefore that would look like shooting at f/4.0 on a Super-35 camera.

Thank you David. So best case scenario f/4.5, but more likely about f/5.0?

Hi to every one ! Hey Jim, Jarred and all the Red Team ! Waoooooooouuhhh

This announcement is awesome.. Scarlet's not so far away, and quite affordable... and the features are....Well....incredible !!

But ok, we will wait these few months more...

So is it the right moment to release some test footage ? I think this will be so interesting...To see the possibilities in real...

I suggest 50's ladies drinking some milk, don't know...

Then, keep up the extremly good work... you are all so crazy !

Best

Great news.

I really hope that Redmote Pro can be mounted and operated sideways - smart side/left arm in mind. It looks like that goes without saying, but anyway...

I suggest allowing LCD menu switching 90 degrees CCW. If that can be done, I recommend leaving histogram upright as it is on this pic and on the same location, but switching it so that the highlights are on the top. Once that is done exposing will be very intuitive (and a cool unique feeling btw). Also, if possible please allow scaling histogram to full screen or half screen. Larger and more detailed histogram is always welcome, it will enable DP's to get a better feel of the picture, especially in this upright position. If that little central wheel between cursors and FF wheel can control iris - it will be fantastic.

Smart thinking guys, respect.

This is all fantastic news. Congratulations on so much progress. I just have a few questions:

RED RAY:

When will we end-users be able to author to the RRD codec? Will this be possible out of Final Cut Pro? Will we be able to write RRD files from R3D's only or can we go from DPX's?

The RRD format and Red Ray Pro suggests that some degree of security has been factored into the codec. Is there any copy-protections, use-limiters, denial of access or other anti-piracy / anti-propagation methods installed?

SCARLET FIXED LENS:

Some of my associates are curious if the Aluminium / Magnesium body is a option or if the decision to choose one or the other has yet to be made. They work in a challenging environment that absolutely EATS Sony and Panasonic cameras like dixie cups and they are hungry for a solid state camera platform. In their specific work environment, a magnesium body could be potentially volatile.

Is the fan/cooling system on Scarlet filtered? Or could it be filtered to prevent material like sand from entering the fan?

I noticed that some of the structural components of the fixed lens may be polymer based. Is the outer housing of the lens a polymer or is it aluminum or a mix of both?

What is the effective range of the Redmote?

Are the bodies painted or anodized?

So do we need two REDmotes/REDmote PROs to control two cameras when shooting 3D, or will we be able to control two cameras with one REDmote?

REDRay Pro looks awesome, it looks like a projector? ;)

Scarlet 8x Fixed comes with the touch screen LCD? is that the LCD on the back? Not a typical flip open one? Does not seem so on the pictures.

Otherwise a very tempting proposition - something I will be definitely considering late next year, better start saving now :)

8x is not a big range. My current lens on the XL-H1 is 20x. It does have a bad wideangle though, 37.5mm. If Scarlet starts at 28 (which I believe it will) it w ill mean 244mm at the telephoto end. Not too shabby.
