  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I wonder what data rate you will have at 1080p since this is what I'll be shooting at, most of the time.

Almost 15,000 people online(new record), 10k viewing this thread. Wonder how many are in Japan because it's 5am here.

Maybe scarlet is for the masses and not as niche as some thought.

Option 21 :D depth of field pass - would fit right in there next to the gps/motion sensors that come next on the list
(look I can dream right? - never having to iron out folds shadows or missing edges of a greensceen by hand would be the best gift anybody could give me - don´t know how much time I spend doing that in my life)
It would also fit VERY well with the HDR option (OMG somebody in the red team gets a VFX supervisor hero award for that alone) - contrary to some people here thinking this is for making nice pictures - its for making HDR irradiance maps for your favorite 3d program - this camera is a VFX supervisors dream. You can of course make "pretty" HDR pictures but I think that novelty has seen its day ;)

as for the motion sensor - PLEASE add a compass if thats not in already - I can´t imagine it costs too much but would add the last bit of valuable data that you would need.
As for the people saying the data from gps+motion sensor is not "enough" to do tracking - well it might be not enough to make pixel perfect tracking but it surely can assist a tracker which then only has to make the raw data pixel perfect instead of figuring out where the camera points, what the tilt is etc pp. Its more then half the way there and especially with huge resolution will speed this up tremendously.

And this came just through twitter:

"@mikeseymour tease : HDR mode is not bracketed stills mode ;-) "

So there is an active cooling inside? What about noise?

Fixed lens are 77mm, OK it´s standard, but I haven´t found any tele or wide convertor yet.

This may have already been answered, but I couldn't find a related post. Where does the battery go on the fixed lens kit?

The only requirement is that the post production application should provide (the RED RAY encoder) a sequence of 4K or 2K resolution DPX files...

Bam. Done. Now ... can you spill the beans on any hardware acceleration -

Will Red Rocket accelerate RRD encoding -

If not, please make me a Red Ray Missile

Thank you guys for working so hard and letting us see a part of the dream !:emote_happyhappy:

Thank you David. So best case scenario f/4.5, but more likely about f/5.0?

There are other factors what will affect you ability to get shallow dof such as close focus distance, circles of confusion size, and focal length. If you're going for shallow DOF you wouldn't necessarily match 35mm fov but would instead go for the shallow sweet spots (longer focal lengths and closer subject focus). Same as if you wanted deep DOF on 35mm, you'd push it where it needed to be rather than try to match a 2/3 fov.

Rocket will accelerate the R3D side of the decode/debayer/color/scaling. :)

8X Lens Focal Lengths

8X Lens Focal Lengths

I understand the 8x fixed lens is a servo lens, so my question is whether there will be some way of knowing at any given focal length exactly what focal length one is using. Say, starting from full wide (whatever that happens to be), I zoom in to frame a shot: will I be able to determine the precise focal length of an arbitrary zoom (besides the obvious full wide-angle or telephoto)? This is important data for several types of post work.

RQ

This may have already been answered, but I couldn't find a related post. Where does the battery go on the fixed lens kit?

they haven't figured that out yet. I know you need either a battery module or side handle so I guess we will see if they add the module or add the handle while removing the redmote

Will the Redmote PRO control focus through the electronic Canon mount?
And I tried to calculate the price for a production package working with the s35 interchangable. If you already own the lenses it would be something like:

Body - 7000
Touchscreen 5" - 1200
PRO Redmote - 1750
Side CF-Module - 500
Side Handle - 950
Base Plate - ?
Battery Module - 1750
Electronic Canon mount - 500
CF-Cards (4) - 1400

So a total of $15 050 lenses and base plate price excluded

Is that correct? Am I missing something?
