Just out of curiosity (and I've never seen it mentioned here): Approximately how many people are employed at RED? 50? 100? 250?

I'll be sad to trade mine in. Over the years, I've covered it in stickers like the back of a skateboard.
Ah. I didn't know that killer robots got along with magic pixies-- you must have a hell of an HR department. What people? Only magic pixies & killer robots here!
Yea Jim, that's all fine and dandy... but will the new Epic cameras have an option to shoot in H.264 ?????????? It's either that or nothing for me..
As my RED One increases in capabilities, I am quite content to wait for my Epic-X.
For those of you that can't quite comprehend the complexity of what we are trying to do... consider that there are 70 boards and 11,000 pieces on an EPIC-X (with modules).
Just food for thought while you are waiting...
Jim

That has been true with electrolytic caps in years past, and ceramic caps will crack and fail under mechanical stress (normally during assembly, not as much once a unit is assembled). But now there are a lot of high-quality cap choices, and even the electrolytics made now are (I believe) not as failure-prone as the earlier designs.
Now that the R1 has been out for a while, I think their team should have a pretty good idea about what works in the field and what doesn't, at least on the time scale of a few years.
We had a few Sony DXC-M7 cameras, they all developed hum bars in the picture over time.
I replaced their electrolytic’s with tantalum Capacitors wherever possible, that solved the problems.
I found that a Sony certified service center was selling replacement Power Supply boards; they had the hum bar problems right out of the box.
Regarding Capacitors, My experience as an Electronic Engineer is that the Electrolytics are the weakest link. We had a few Sony DXC-M7 cameras, they all developed hum bars in the picture over time.

Jim, just as my Grandmother 20 years ago was amazed that my 250 page master's thesis was contained on a single floppy disk
20 years ago, was that a 5 1/2 inch floppy or a 3 inch? Oh the floppy floppies.
