  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any Interest for a ~2K STEADICAM designed for the RED ONE?

NoahK,

Is that true? I know the patent rights ran out sometime ago. Hence all the other brands out there. I thought the trademark was related.

Show me a product that's called "Steadicam" that doesn't come from the company that invented it and I'll stand corrected.

Noah

Matt, something went wrong when converting the video: every third frame is repeated. Makes it hard to judge smooth movement.

I like what you are doing here, Matt.. if you get it working well and price is right, we might be in for one.

Keep up the good work :)

I appreciate it. We are excited about making something that can help indie filmmakers. We will make sure the bugs are worked out and then beta testing will happen as we pursue professional manufacturing. If this ends up being marketed, we want it to be professional, powerful, and affordable. I will keep you guys in the loop as my dad refines our design. The only issue we are having is the Z wobble. I believe the weight of the Red setup will stop that, but we will see. We also want the rig to work even for HVX users and other small cams, so we need to eliminate the wobble anyway. :ninja:

Trademarks last forever unless they fall out active use for an extended period of time. (Well, technically there are also a couple of other ways to lose rights to a trademark, but they're pretty uncommon.)

If you can produce a effective camera stabilizer for the red at that price point, you will sell many.

Good luck with it.

That is our intention. We will see how it works with the RED ONE coming up in the next several weeks.:gun:

If you can make and sell a unit for 2K it would be amazing. You will sell a load of them. The parts and machine time to produce the vest, socket block, arm and sled not to mention the "J" box is huge. Decent four point contact bearing(s) for the gimbal alone run fifty to a hundred dollars apiece. I've been fooling around with a design myself and I've come up with some different ideas. If your interested in my thoughts, when I get back home and have access to my computer files I would be glad to share them with you. Anyhow good luck with your project and no matter what anybody says, you can always build a better mousetrap.

At that price we'd be interested in one for sure. Good luck with it and keep us updated.

Make it good and you'll have my 2K too.

Thanks for the interest guys! We will know much more after the two Red One shoots coming up the weekend of the 10th and 17th. I should have a petnent pending soon on some aspects of the Hypercam and then it will make sense to show more of it. Also, the next step will be to choose the professional production materials and location based on keeping costs low and quality high, smooth out the design and make several Beta testing prototypes...perhaps 5-10. After a few months of intensive Beta Testing and getting the Hypercam into some pro-steadicam user's hands as well as indie film makers, we can move toward a final model and start to make the Hypercam available. That is the plan at least! We will let you know as we plod along. -Matt

I'd be interested, but I have to note:

40-50 hours of production per unit? You'd better figure out a way to mass-produce these and get the turnaround down, because if you can put out a fully-spec'd stabilizer for ~$2000 you're going to get swamped with orders, and if it's one guy making one a week you'll have a backorder list ten years long. Learn from RED's mistakes and start thinking about mass production from the get-go.

We plan to have this mass produced. Good thinkin'!:ninja:

Same here if it can get the good shots. (better then glidecam, magicarm, basson, and all those knock offs) I am definatly in

Maybe not better than glidecam gold or bassons top model, but if just as good yeah totally. And if it is better you'll make a killing.

I agree with that other guy *whats-his-namey* Get expireced operators to test it and give feeback.
