  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IBC '09? There's a new Canon camera to be announced soon (Canon source)

where do you grade?? yet.. you're forgetting to place h264 > h264 > FINAL OUTPUT

where do you grade??

Usually in Sony Vegas and/or After Effects.

yet.. you're forgetting to place h264 > h264 > FINAL OUTPUT

Where in earth did you get that 2nd h264?

Let me re-iterate:

h264 > Grade > FINAL OUTPUT

is better than

h264 > Prores > Grade > FINAL OUTPUT

or

h264 > Cineform > Grade > FINAL OUTPUT

That's one huge "IF" though. Judging by Canon's motion camera history, that will not happen. They are painfully behind the times when it comes to video and software. Their lenses are a different story.

That may be true in terms of what they have released, but up until recently Canon's video offerings have always been limited to prosumer levels due to tacit agreement with Sony, Panasonic, Ikegami, et al not to encroach on their turf but still sell their B4 broadcast lenses. Haven't you noticed that, despite being one of the two main manufacturers, there has NEVER been a Canon B4 mount video camera?

It is only VERY recently that there has been justification for them to abandon that approach - mostly because of what Nikon did, but also to some extent due to competition from RED.

If you have ever had a chance to talk to one of the actual Japanese camera engineers you know that they tend to be very circumspect about what they have in their future arsenal, but if you talk to them for awhile you can tell they are VERY smart and certainly have the ability to take advantage of the state of the art in sensor and codec technology.

Ignoring Canon's capability is silly, and despite what Jim said about cutting back on overtime costs I suspect that Graeme, Jim, Jarred and the rest of the team are burning some midnight oil on Epic/Scarlet. As an american entrepreneur that lamented the demise of Ampex and RCA in the video world, I am certainly rooting for RED. My current investment in RED products is about 25K vs. 5k for Canon. (mostly those lenses)

are you sure?? now me will put the things a little bit difficult.. one by one lol

where (codec) do you include the 24p conversion from 5d2 30p??

what hardware is capable to edit/cc/grade h264 smoothly?

yet.. why not upsampled to 2k for mixing w/ the elite's redcode?.. ehehehehe or anamorphic footage etc

throw the towel man!

btw.. halsu is my hv20 forums poster :attention9ha:

mixing w/ the elite's redcode?.. ehehehehe

Some "big announcement" coming from Canon?

Translation: "During this fall, Canon will make one of its largest and most important launches in the company’s history and we hope you can attend. During a luncheon, you are invited to listen to CEO Jouko Tuouminen, Marketing presiden Monica Forsberg and trend analyst Magnus Lindkvist, talking about tomorrows trends and factors of success in the continually more digitalized everyday life."

:eek6:

FF35mm vDSLR Canon 6D shoots 24p, 25, 30, 50, 60.

Price US$ 5.000.

Video: AVCHD & H264.

That's all folks!

While I haven't had a chance to read everyone's post in this thread, I think most of the those commenting are forgetting Red's biggest advantage, while variable frame rates and modularity are certainly important for a flexible camera I think the real advantage for Red is REDCODE!!! That's something no other camera manufacturer has yet been able to match and as long as they don't there will still be a huge gap between what they offer and what Red does.

I don't know about everyone else but when I buy my scarlet I'll be buying a platform I can keep building on, both with the hardware (add-on modules and brains) and the benefits of Redcode (RedRocket anyone?).

i think your translation is totally wrong

it says
Under hösten gör Canon: a brat in underwear called Canon
en av sina största: and also the deranged Sina

..hoppas at du: hop towards you

:eek6:
Yes, Tom. It's here. My source was too self-confident, smiling too much. It's not so usual from there. He said that I'd be back soon.

September 29 seems to be the date for the big announcement (Canon's invitation translated from swedish):

«In the autumn, Canon launches one of their biggest and most important products in the company's history and we hope you can attend. You are welcome to listen CEO Jouko Tuominen, Marketing Director Monica Forsberg and trend analyst Magnus Lindkvist.»

When is the announcement coming, I wonder? What about IBC?

Their job is still in the learning curve from Jim -- Master of "advanced digital cinematography" marketing ;-)

(...) I wonder? What about IBC?
Studying the usual behaviour from there, September but outside IBC are their habits.

Once in the past, someone said to me: «we are bigger than the exhibition».

As matter of fact, the guy worked for Sony, but last time I could check him out, he was in the Canon payroll.

Interesting. Sounds like late Sept is going to be very interesting. :ihih:

Isn't that in reference to the 1DMKIV?
