  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

avid mxf red workflow

i would say 115 IS good enough if your end product is gonna be SD (yes... SOME projects STILL finish in SD), if you're ending up in HD, i would want it to be dnxhd175.

It doesn't matter what you think or what I think. Shows are being completed - in HD - using 115. Major network shows.

requests etc

requests etc

david it should go down many many layers of folders to find the r3d file
so if you move all your "cards" into one folder then pick that folder it'll work
that's what i just did here foders like this jamiestuff/redstuff/lotsofrdcfoldershere it found them all and got on with it is that ok?
try it and see...

175 for offline? OK why not!!! go crazy!

not moving into avid mediafiles? bugger.
i will try it out... you did "choose" your own avid mediafiles/mxf/1 folder didn't you?
the default one wont work (it's MY folder)and it WON'T find yours automatically (although that would be cool...)
it all seemed to work last time i tried it!

gui size

gui size

hello
i've worked out how to rearrange the gui so it'll fit on a macbook pro (what was i thinking ? man that IS an oversight sorry everyone...)
anyway it'll be in tomorrows update of the demo
so the gui will fit 1440 x 900 and sound will work automatically, debayer quality will alter with size of shot.
can someone give me the pixel width of a 3k shot if 4k is 4096 and 2k is 2048 what are the dimensions of 3k? i could assume but that makes an "ass" of "u" and "me" so my mum told me.

now then ALE
where i come from that's a drink.
remember i am not an editor.
Does redline give out an ale for everything its rendered in the last hour or just a file at a time.
if it's just a file at a time how is that any easier than mediatool?
you'd end up with a hundred "ale" files!!
don't get it yet. someone do a video to show me! I can't be the only one here to do a rubbish screen capture (its embarrassing)
shall i put it up to buy yet?
a guy came into my suite today with a load of RED footage and i did a jamfuze avid edit for him. he was amazed until i said it was only for special people thousands of miles away.
then he went to speak to my boss.
hey ho.
tomorrow i do a RED vs ARRI d21 shootout. should be fun.

Hello Jamie,
I have been through all these discution and something you said caught my attention...you are a colourist working with baselight. Well I read that baselight work with R3D files as well as it is possible to import AFE from avid into that system.
Could tell me more about it or direct me towards a competent person. Thanks
Yes, latest Baselight version 4 does support r3d along with Fantom and Arri files as well as the ALE import. Also, GPU is finally enabled. FilmLight's new product BLT ( BaseLight Transfer) is essentially a Baselight HD minus secondary color grading and shapes, no DVS card and no support for the Blackboard. Otherwise for around $42,000 you get a Baselight HD, that normally goes for over $250,000. It does include Truelight and that by itself is worth the price. And because it's Linux based, it's completely scriptable and scalable. BLT will transcode RED, Fantom, Arri to anything (including Prores with help of Mac). The MFX files are rendered directly into AVID and immediately available for edit. Pretty impressive achievement for the price...

buy jamie a baselight

buy jamie a baselight

see??
i only need 1000 of you to buy jamfuze and i can BUY a baselight instead of hanging round the back alleys of london hoping one will fall off the back of a lorry!
$49 or $42000... you decide
i'm only joking. I know what good stuff they do.
j

this can happen faster than you think. keep up the good work and i'll PM or IM you some ALE info. check out metacheater tho for one of the best ALE generators right now. you could also look at 'AVID Log Exchange' that come with the AVID as well.

It's great to see all different RED workflow solutions at different price points and level of sophistication popping up all over the place. Regardless of it being a software only or a combination of hardware and software, all these solutions mean healthy competition and more choices. Everybody wins. Obviously ConFuse and BLT target extreme opposite segments of the market, so it's not a fair comparison and I wasn't trying to do that. I was simply answering the question on the r3d support in Baselight. Keep up the good work.

Why is the fps NTSC only ?
Didn't you started in PAL ?
Do you have plans to do 25fps also ?
cheers

25fps

25fps

hi Marc
yes it all works in 25fps
but my boss wasn't happy about me releasing something that would enable competitors to do something as easily as we can now.
23.98 he has no problem with as we're not in that market anyway.
who knows maybe one day he'll relent and i'll release the 25fps version also.
cheers

Hello Jamie,
It seems that finaly money is a big issue. I am talking about 25fps. Why your boss would be against making the life of editors more comfortable. I wish I would have your soft for the material shot with the red cameras that I will be editing.
Anyway, its great what you are doing, pity i tsonly for the non PAL market

Francois
I totally understand.
It is all DONE in 25fps (that's why i started this!!)
if i can get the boss to let me release it to 25fps places I will.
But he does feed and clothe my children and let me develop stuff on his computers and bought the davinci 2k+ for me to make pretty pictures with so I can't really argue with him too much!!
cheers though
if it ever is available it'll be here first.
au revoir

here's a suggestion. when you open JAMFuze™ and hit cancel it starts running what im assuming is a dummy script with the defaults in the gui. any way to make cancel quit or not run the script? and Diamond Vision™ is it!!!

the cancel button thing...
i have so far concentrated on making the thing work properly.
now you want me to make it "not work" properly!!!:)
I'll look into it on tuesday when i'm back on the intel mac.

Jamie,

Any chance of adding an option to select which timecode to use? (edge / ext)
I would really like to link MXF media created by JamFuze to an ALE created by RedCine (via XSLT).

Problem is JamFuze makes clips using EXT timecode, and the ALE creation process makes them using EDGE.

My reasoning is that currently we go back to RedCine from an Avid Film Scribe XML for DPX creation for finish. And the process is particular to us using an ALE created via this method.

Also, an option to remove ".mov" from the tape name would be great.

Thanks for all your hard work.

new demo up

new demo up

hello
the new demo is up and will last about 2 weeks
cos i'll be away from the mac for a while.
the offline bit also quits gracefully now (new DiamondStop feature!)
hans spoke to me again it sounds like when i get back it'll mostly be done!
cool.
in the meantime
James Rayburn
I think i can do an "edge code" read for the offline bit. maybe...I'll try it tomorrow.
also removing.mov off clip name should be doable.
would you like an option? or a C.U.T special edition?

james-would you let me know in more detail your process? I'm really interested in how people are doing stuff.
dpx workflows were Monkey Extract territory i thought. so I haven't given much attention to it.
So if Jamfuze helps you out please let me know (or do a screencast c'mon If i can make a fool of myself....:))
cheers
