  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

avid mxf red workflow

just playing devil's advocate, but if there is NO .rsx file... then what?

if no .rsx then use metadata? if no .rsx in the .rdc folder, then use this other .rsx file? how would the software know?

isn't that what '1 .rsx to rule them all' (i hate that he changed that label) is for?

MAYBE the software could trap the error & ask 'HEY, there's no .rsx for this one... now what?'

that'd be sweet.

I was thinking simply use RSX if its there. If not, behave as if "NONE" were selected.

cool a bug!

cool a bug!

no..... its a feature
i call it snow vision™ it is perceptually pure energy coming out of the screen to blind you with my brilliance.
white screen indeed. Philistines the lot of you!
OK OK I'll fix it:)
if no rsx present then do metadata.
i'll do it tomorrow.

Also up tomorrow will be ALE importing (i kind of figured out how to do it)
but it will be one ALE per red file done for now.
still it gives you LOAAAADSS more metadata. I got bored reading it all-it was like War and Peace....
you need to import the ale files and relink to specific resolution media.
that seems to do it. I can feel a video coming on.

Also- take a look at the website for MTS_Fuze
they gave me a load of MTS files from an everio jvc AVCHD camera to get onto the AVID somehow.
MTS_Fuze was the result.
Guaranteed to save some hassle at some point if you ever have to deal with consumer avchd cameras and an avid.
cheers

yep
1 ale for every mxf file you make
if i can figure out a way of combining all the ale's into 1 file i'll do it but i'm not sure i know how to do that yet.

I'm eager to try this out. We have a camera here that shoots to MTS files. I'm curious how well MTS_Fuze will work. When we shoot with a consumer camera like that, we usually work SD, even though the camera shoots HD. An option for HD or SD would be neat. As would resolution and framing options, such as 1:1 or 2:1, or SD-Letterboxed vs SD-Centercut.

That should keep you busy for a while. :-)

Currently I have to use iMovie to make QTs from the MTS stuff, which takes a long time and is tedious, not to mention space consuming.

Hi Jamie..

I received the credit back by Paypal and already tested the new demo. :)

Many thks...

new versions

new versions

hola

new versions
the jamfuze demo on

http://www.jamieparry.demon.co.uk

now "white screen of death" fixed. it defaults to camera metadata if no RSX present when you picked "use folder rsx" option

also

http://www.jamieparry.demon.co.uk/jamfuze_ale.zip

same as normal but leaves an ale file in your chosen destination folder
this can be imported into the avid and the clips it produces then need to be "relinked" to specific resolution (ie dnxhd36 or dnxhd115) then they'll all show up and you have that ton of metadata
there may be another way to get them to show up but I don't know it.
When ONLINING you will need to use jamfuze ALE online as the ale process has forced me to change the way the "tape name" is written.

i've tested an offline/online conform with it and it all seems to work.

now then....
anyone who can work autodesk "smoke" out there who wants to help me do smokeyfuze online??
i'm looking forward to that as i can always charge a premium for anything to do with autodesk products.
smokeyfuze will be $49.01 bwa ha ha haaaaaa soon the world will be mine etc etc

Jamie,

I have penciled in some time with one of our Smoke rooms this afternoon to play with the SmokeyFuze created DPX files. I have already gone through the offline portion with no problems. MXF creation, edit, decompose, EDL, and DPX creation all went smoothly. I'll let you know this afternoon how things go.

Have you given any thought to more sizing options for the DPX files? Perhaps 4k (4096x2048), 3k (3072x1536) 2k (2048x1024) and two flavors of HD 1080 & 720?

Thanks again. Our smoke guys were pretty excited about this, so keep up the good work!

I'd like to be the first to report that MTS_Fuze rocks.

But my HD 59.94 footage didn't like the conversion to 25p. :-).

It converted and came into a 25p project just fine, just plays a bit bumpy.

bring on v2.

more embarrassing videos done

more embarrassing videos done

the vids will be up on the website later
youtube is just mangling them now

i've done a jamfuzeALE one (which also demos the folder rsx fix)
from
R3D>offlinemxf via ALE>edit in avid>export EDL>JamfuzeALE-Online>RELINK
done
all in there
and an MTS_Fuze one for the MTS type cameras

james and other smokers
in theory (and i know i'm going to regret this) doing different sizes of dpx files should be easy peasy lemon squeezy.
if you get it to all link up with your smoke and want different sizes done...
for you dude?
no problemo.
