  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New: public beta of Clipfinder 2.1 - the render features you requested

I just sent you an email with the bug report I just got, and as many details as I could.
Maybe it's related to 3K files...

Some of the durations also look strange, like "00:03:227:00" or "00:04:271:00"...

When I click the "save preset changes" in the render window, it resets its name to "no name".

Regarding feature suggestions, here are a few :
- Could you add a "skip existing files" option like in after effects ? This way, you could select all the files you want to render, and it would only render the ones that don't already exist.
- could you give the option to display some more colums like In/out timecode / edgecode ?

I'll probably come up with a few more suggestions later ;)

By the way, I would also click on the paypal button...

Thanks again,
Nils.

That's very kind of you, Filip. I appreciate it.
Clipfinder is my gift to the RED community. There's no need to send any money.
If you want to do me favor, send me snapshot of Clipfinder in use on one your projects and allow me to post it on my website.

Hans

You are the man, I love this application. I have not downloaded the latest, but the earlier version saved me so much time. I will get this one asap. I had a question, I know it uses redline, but how many clips does it render at once, is it one at a time or multiples. thanks

Nils,
I had a first look at the crash log. It looks like the problem is in my code (i.e. not a codec problem, i.e. likely not related to the clips being in 3K). I need to spend more time on this. I will come back to you when I know more.

I will also think about your suggestions.

Thanks for your feedback
Hans

Scott,
You can set it to use anything between 1 and 16 REDline tasks. You'll need to play with this setting to find the sweet spot for your configuration (the bottleneck is usually disk I/O). There's an fps indicator to help you with gauging effective throughput.

Cheers,
Hans

thanks, I will test it out. You da man....

The only thing I've come across is that it always crashes when I try to import files from a directory after I've deleted files in an open project.

I am sorry, but I have not been able to reproduce this.
If you could help me by sending the following information, I'd be much obliged:
- which version of Clipfinder are you using ?
- crash log (select "report" from the dialog that appears after the crash, send "problem details")
- system log (start Applications/Utilities/Console and send anything related to Clipfinder)

Many thanks for your feedback
Hans

I was planning to extend the conform feature as a next step after putting in rendering support. However, with the recent speculation about what the next FCP version may offer, I'm wondering whether that still makes sense.

Another possible next step would be the integration of basic corrections (essentially the same you have in REDAlert right now) into Clipfinder.

EDL support for other editing platforms is unlikely as that would mean I'd need to buy these other platforms (there is no point in developing for something you cannot test). Also, doesn't Monkey Extract do just that ?

What do you guys think ?

Hans,

Thank you so much for this wonderfull program:love:

Clipfinder is the long time awaited link that makes RedAlert and RedLine at last practical.

It also make RedCine (the most autistic program ever) a thing of the past.

RSX files is a wonderfull concept that deserves to be used extensively, it's so groovy to be able to share settings as an email attachment to a partner who also have the rushes in his system

RedAlert could be the perfect tool with a better interface, especially the ability to fine tune every settings and better curves integration.

On relatively short programs, I am planning to use ClipFinder along with RedAlert to:
-Sort out rushes, set rough ins and outs, anote them, regroup the selected ones in a new ClipFinder project
-Open each selected clip in RedAlert to optimize the R3D files
-Render everything to 2K ProRes HQ quicktime online files.
-Import those online files in FCPro and start editing in 2K without leaving FCStudio anymore.
-If I need additional shots, I'll just go back to my Clipfinder project, browse - select - render and import in FC.
-Once edited, send the FC project to Color then back to FC for sound and export.

Now for some longer projects it sure would be great if ClipFinder was able to render using the ins and outs from FC, instead of the whole clips

Who knows when FCStudio will support R3D files, ClipFinder makes a lot of sens in those days, and a few more steps could make it almost perfect while we wait for R3D support from the major platforms.

I'd be more than willing to pay for it.

Now I know why I married a swiss, they simply rule.:gun:

Hans,
I've been testing out your software today. Love it - works really well. I had a couple of crashes, but getting rid of any spaces in the file paths took care of it.

I tried out a conform with FCP - worked well. Is there any way to render the final full res clips with in and out points, so I don't have to render the entire clip? Maybe with adjustable handle length? I don't know anything about coding programs, so I may be asking for more than one can expect from a free program. I can't believe you're giving this away. You're the man.

Clipfinder 2.1 beta 7 now available

Many thanks to everyone who helped with beta testing.
You've been a great help.

I have made another round of bug fixes and have just put version beta 7 on my server. The fixes include
- rendering 2K or 3K clips with any of the dynamic debayer settings should now work correctly
- more responsive behaviour when importing a large number of clips
- saving presets no longer overwrites edited preset name
- saving a preset or starting the render operation will now end editing in any open edit field
- added preference to "log render commands" (mostly of diagnostic value)

With any luck, this will become the final version.
Please report any problems you encounter with this new version; I will try to fix them asap.

Cheers,
Hans

Rowland,

I'll eventually extend the conform function to render with adjustable handle lengths. It will take some time, though.

Cheers,
Hans

That's great. You should be making money off this somehow. It's a great piece of software.

all the best,
Ben Rowland

I know Hans as a generous person so it will stay a free software ... the only way to donate is a cold beer. :-)

I would just need a clarification:

If I work on curves in RedAlert, will this work displayed correctly in the files rendered from Clipfinder, and what about RedRushes?

Emmanuel

Emmanuel,

For some reason, the REDQuicktime codec does not use the curve settings made in REDAlert, and since Clipfinder uses Quicktime for the display of clips and thumbnails it also does not show the effect of curve settings.

When you render from Clipfinder (or REDRushes), however, the curve settings are being applied.

Cheers,
Hans

P.S. I got the impression today, while playing with material recorded with build 15, that the RED Quicktime codec may also not apply the gamma space and/or color space settings when used on build 15 material. Can anybody confirm this ?

Edit: The Quicktime codec doesn't seem to apply the gamma space and color space settings EVER.

Hans-

Confirmed, QC codec doesnt apply the the gamma or colorspace settings.

Got a little snafu here of my own. First specs of this system I'm on.

2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB of ram running OSX 10.5.2 and QT 7.3.0
Running the newest CF beta.

When I double click on a clip in Clip in ClipFinder it launches RedAlert! and gives me a go to folder dialogue box as well as an error in Clip Finder.

See grab attached.

Cheers,

Tim

R3D2,

Ah, that's an easy one...

You'll need to go to System Preferences and check "enable access for assistive devices" in "universal access" (like it says in the manual :))

Cheers,
Hans
