Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Didn't someone say they live near Birger? If I even lived in a neighboring state, I'd have paid Birger a visit by now. Alas, I'm a lonely midwesterner.

This is unbelievable.

Has ANYBODY received a mount or email with tracking info, in recent days ?

PS : I'm still amazed that we have seen no clips or received ANY feedback from beta testers or any one with a 'production' mount !

EDIT 1 :
I just got home.......!!!!
photos soon.... so many R3D files!!!! love all you guys

so ... what happened to this chap ... did he or did he not get a mount ... judging by his silence on the subject, it's not all good news ? C'on Mike Hedge ... what the hell is going on ? where are the 'photos soon' ?

EDIT 2 :
It will soon be 12 months since some of us ordered the mount ... staggering

* something wide, 18mm, 24mm, 35mm -ish

EF 24mm f/1.4 L USM - a godsend!!!

* 85mm or 100mm -ish

The EF 85mm f/1.2 L II USM should come with 5-point racing harness... :)
You should see the bokeh... Pure photographic PRON!!!

* a good wide zoom

I am getting the EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM
but the EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM is also state-of-the-art...
Won't regret either...

* a good tele zoom

The EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS USM is great complimentary zoom to the 24-70mm above...
If You want something little longer, the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM is a must have...

Just my one peso... :)

The natives are growing restless...

...okay maybe not restless, but we ARE consuming large quantities of Pepsi!

Peter has good advice, I just wanted to add:

The 24/1.4 is excellent -- But not very wide on Red. Also, 24-70 is not a wide zoom on Red. I consider 24mm a normal lens.

The 16-35mm is a good choice for a wide zoom; if you want even wider, the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 is a good supplement.

You are right. At least it good be nice to see some footage from some of the "production" mount or mountS ?? so at least we feel a little bit better in our mundane daily lives while waiting for some news.

Either the next sign of life from Erik are the tracking numbers or he has to admit that he has a contract with the devil that bans Erik from shipping the mounts.

For sure I have to visit a psychiatrist to get that Birger thing under control.

Erik, tell us the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

As Epic is getting around the corner our Birger mounts are going to have a life shorter than hoped. It is perfect for Birger to adopt a trade in strategy like Red.

Perhaps the universe has halted release of the mounts, and is going to hold them until I turn on my camera? Stranger things have happened. I guess I'll have to power it up tonight. Or maybe tomorrow.

I'm trying to stay away from this thread, but its all a bit addictive. :blink:

Hedge is trying to stay alive while filming Burning Man in the middle of Black Rock with the Birger. Frankly nothing on this earth, short of a LSR attempt would get me to go there, and not the kind of place where you just drop everything to shove some photo's onto a website. Well, b****r me sideways, there are images,a nd they appear to be alive! http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18438&page=2&highlight=mike+hedge Proper test of the RED and Birger mount.

couple o' things...

couple o' things...

Thanks to Nils and Peter for the recommendations, greatly welcomed, and duly noted for further research. I am beginning to understand why Sanjin is so excited/happy with the IMS - it just opens up a totally new can of worms. Errr, meant to say: world of possiblities.

As Epic is getting around the corner our Birger mounts are going to have a life shorter than hoped.

I don't see Red Ones suddenly not being used (or bought) after the release of Epic. Both cameras cater to different use(r)s.

I would argue that the shorter life-span has more to do with the continued delay of the Birger actually shipping.

(A while ago I heard a podcast that argued that Bill Gates was a great businessman because he understood that there was no point in trying to make the perfect product, if that meant it would hit the market too late.)

It is perfect for Birger to adopt a trade in strategy like Red.

Birger being a small shop, I do not think they have the financial muscle to pull this off. Nor do they have a moral obligation to do so.

RED is extremely kind in offering the trade-in, but you cannot expect anyone to follow suit. Do you expect ET to trade in their base plates? Sachtler to trade in their tripods?

No.

Red came with the promise of making obsolescence obsolete. And they keep that promise with their awesome trade-in deal.

Third party suppliers came with the promise of making tools for your Red One camera. And they kept (or, in the case of Birger, and fingers crossed: are about to keep) that promise. At a very good price point. To ask for more is overdoing it...

And since today seems to be the day for using youTube, here is my Biger related offering:

We are here, not particularly answering the phone, and working on getting things out the door. Hopefully in popping my head up for a minute I won't get shot at...

I am no longer going to make any forward looking statements. I am going to tell you that we have all our resources, and then some, targetted on getting these mounts out the door. Approximately 80 of the new mounts are in the field, and 15 of these are on RED cameras.

We have had a couple of units in the field that were behaving erratically. I have had a chance to evaluate three of the five units that had issues. It is a thermal problem, the front of the RED camera gets really hot. This exacerbated a manufacturing issue, and not a design issue with the mounts, that is now solved.

I will read through the thread when I have a chance. This is simply a proactive post, as a few people that I have spoken to on the phone said that the natives were getting restless...
