  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Thanks, Eric. I'm cheering for you. I'm tired of 2k S16. (all I have). Got my Canons. Got my new JVC monitor/Kona 3/Dulce systems raid.... It's all sitting there waiting on you.......

"Look for my next update in a couple of days. Those reservations in the 107s (placed in November) can look for emails shortly with payment/delivery confirmations for their mounts but not yet the knobs."

Without the knob we will have a very smart mount that performs like a very dumb mount.

As I understand it we can set the aperture by opening or closing it fully and then finding the correct stop by pressing control button to shift it in half stop increments.

Does anyone know how far behind the mount the knob will ship?

It just means manual focusing for a short while or using a follow focus with an attached gear ring on the lens. Iris will indeed be adjusted on the mount itself so the hardest part is taken care of from the word go.

It's fine with me, having the mount is 90% of the battle as the lenses can at least be used. Sure, pulling focus will be a bit painful but I'm sure the mounts won't be that far behind.

Cheers Erik!

Paul

What's the status with the reservation list? I sent in the form back in November but never heard anything. I made a little post on the other sticky but did we ever hear from Erik if that is going to be an official record. I'm not too concerned since I'll be waiting for the Nikon mount anyway, but it's nice to know whether we'll be taken care of, or if I need to stay on top of it all.

Here's your answer:

We are busy working to get everything built. We have a part time person starting on Wednesday, who will be handling the customer interactions, emails, confirmations, final payments, etc.

...and don't forget about the free offer for shipment of a Canon mount while you wait for your Nikon. You'd have to be crazy to miss out on a couple months of shooting when you could pick up a decent Canon lens for dirt cheap, and then sell it when you get your Nikon mount!

Hey! Where did you get that info from? I have a early Nikon mount reserved myself but I would love to use a Canon until that is available.

But this is the first time I read that this would be possible.

Much appreciated,
Mike

Sure thing, Mike. Just see post #879. (I also quoted it a few posts back from here )

Will we automatically be given the option for a Canon version while waiting for the Nikon version?

Yes.

(...)

Anybody with an existing Nikon reservation will be allowed to take delivery of a Canon mount when his number comes up (or any time thereafter) and when Nikon units are ready, trade it in at no cost for a Nikon. ~ Erik Widding aka birgerEngineer @reduser.net

Thanks for the update Birger.

I only have Canon lenses, but in the future I might rent some PL mount lenses. Will you be designing a PL to Canon adapter soon?. With the long thread and delays I am confused if at the end we are going to be able to go from Canon lenses into PL lenses in a quick way, or we will have to completely uninstall the Birger mount and re install Red mount. That would be quite annoying IMHO.

Could any one answer me this question, as I guess Birger is quite busy finishing up the Canon Birger mount.

On the side note. I have two really cool Voiglander lenses. I think they have the same mount as Leica lenses. Even though my camera may arrive in August, not to be pessimistic but I'm not 100% sure I'll have my Birger mount by then (I ordered it in Mid December) Is there any easy way to adapt Leica mount into PL mount so I could use those until I get my Canon mount? How about latter on, Leica to Canon? That's supposed to be easy, right?

Thanks a lot,

IC

Hi Muffinny,

Sorry to say, but I'm afraid you will have to replace the original PL mount when you want to go from Canon to PL.

It should be possible to make a Canon EF to PL mount adapter. The FFD of the Canon is 44mm. PL is 52mm. They both have a 54mm internal diameter. So a male EF mount sandwiched with a female PL mount with 8mm spacing from seat to seat should work. If my Birger mount ever comes I'll have one made and report back on if it works.

doug underdahl at longvalley equipment has a leica mount for the red like the nikon mount.

Thanks for update Erik.
Even with full Birger mount configuration with knobs, I think I will adapt my Redrockmicro FF as manual backup. Extra redundancy in the system won't hurt much. Personally, my primary goal with your mount is iris control of Canon lenses, but it's great that your product allows more than that.
There was time I was actually planning to use Canon Rebel body and build my own lens mount (who knows what kind of disaster that would've ended with ), but then I found out about your products.
Thanks again for doing that for us (and for saving innocent Rebel body :shifty:).

anybody ...

anybody ...

... in the 107_ order batch received their email ?

any feedback from early Beta testers ?

are Birger 'days' the same as our Gregorian Calendar 'days' ?

... in the 107_ order batch received their email ?

Amy is going through a whole bunch of emails today to make sure no orders got lost, and any cancellations and change requests were processed. Not sure if this will be finished on friday or monday. As soon as this is finished there will be an email "hey we got your order" going out to everyone.

Next, we will start sending emails to all of the 107s with a target ship date, and an invoice (including shipping) that once paid online, will release the order for shipment.

We are on top of this. Hang tight.
