  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Mattebox....

We will offer two models... this one 1st (and cheapest). This one should be within a month or two at the most. Price announced at release.

What are people going to do whilst they wait for a Red matte box?

When the Red lightweight MB begins to ship there may be 3000 Red cameras out there.
How long will most of these people have to wait for this lightweight matte box?...what will the production rate be?

And we're only talking about a clamp-on here.
How about all those that want to wait for a studio matte box on rods.
All those people with different size lenses requiring different adapter/reduction rings or hard mattes or rounds polas or different filter trays.
What's everyone going to do whilst waiting for all this?
I've done all I can to get Arri(Aust) to reduce their prices by 75% but it doesn't help all US buyers......

I just question what people think they are going to do whilst waiting for maybe six months for a decent matte box that suits.

Cheers,

That is a big pile of Bullshit, nice attempt Brook. LMB-5 has always had the clamp at 12 oclock, and same with the LMB-4. Please RED, keep that post where it is. I am glad you are taking advice from the AC's who job depends on these details, and not from Armchair guys that really do not know what they are talking about. Keep listening to the feedback, but make sure you weigh it accordingly.

I try to keep out of stuff like this.. because its usually not worth getting into it..
But while your posting this from your armchair.. Brook is out on a set working as we speak.

I bought ARRI LMB-5 while I wait..

Well gee, Abel has special deals with Arri specifically for all you nice folks here at reduser. Don't want anyone to get mad and say I'm shilling, but if you want an LMB-15, an MB20-II, or an MB14 we can give you a special RED rate.

Besides the picture and valuable feedback from uber members like Brook and others, I am glad to hear that there will be a LW clip on and a cine version. My work is weighted strongly in non hardlined EFP so I mainly use Series 9 screw on filters to keep the weight down and the mobility up. Like everyone else I look forward to more details.

I've been asked not to post prices in general, but I can say that these are great Arri-approved deals that are available throughout most of the world.

Ahhhh balls.

I've spent the day on the phone to Arri, flipping through brochures and price lists, and about to spec up an order for an FF and MB kit...

They're putting prices up in the UK from Monday onwards (3rd March) to meet the EU conversion rate shift...

So, do I wait and gamble on something *potentially* cheaper and/or better than the Arri? While loosing about a £200 saving if it doesn't pan out?!

What's the next surprise? A Red Follow Focus?

Thanks for that David, always nice to be called "Dumb". Any other kind things you'd like to throw my way? Like pepper spray? :umm:

Can't think of anything right off.

Didn't think 6 month of renting was the best solution thou.

Credit where's it due....Mitch, Well done....

Just had a customer saying...Abel's new Arri discounts are pretty much in line with your prices.....sales tax cancelling international shipping.

If this is actually the case for all redusers and I'm sure it is and if your deal is ongoing, I can't see why your deal shouldn't be a sticky in the Off Topic section. Maybe if you can give a firmer indicator of discount, that would make it a sticky. As I say 6 months with a cheap matte box or hiring ain't my idea of fun!

Cheers,
Dave.

Dave,

I think RED coming out with a mattebox is nice, but I am happy to have an ARRI. At this stage of the game I cannot afford any more "unknowns". I mean, the RED Mattebox is not even out yet, and while Jim may SAY a month or two at the latest, I am forced to remember I STILL DON'T HAVE A FRIGGIN EVF. :)

So while I have a bit of faith in the products, my faith in timely shipments is not that high.

:)

I'll reserve judgement on the mattebox until people are actually using it, and you are able to buy it with no extreme wait.

I just stumbled upon the review at http://www.dghagey.com/Director_of_Photography/Toronto_Red_Test_1.html.

[...] worst of all is that if you attach a clip-on mattebox [to the RED zoom 18-50 mm] as you tighten it the housing flexes slightly and it makes it impossible to move the focus ring. Rods are the only option for the Red Zoom’s mattebox.

If this is in fact a problem then how will a RED clip-on mattebox work with their own zoom lens?

Can anybody confirm/rebut this problem?

I've used a clip-on with the RED 18-50mm and it worked. Each 18-50mm I've used is dramatically different, so it may have just been a quality control issue [I.E. he had a buggered lens].

That's a cheering thought:umm:

May I get one of the good ones, please…:calm:

There are plenty of companies that make quality matteboxes, probably not worth it to wait for RED's product, based on their other accessories.
