I feel like the Kippertie revolva or Strata is a better option at this point, since it's cheaper and you do not have to take out cartridges. That's just my opinion. Just wish they have a service team in US.

The whole cartridge system is a bit frustrating. i have to use it with my rf-ef glass, but it cost $379. it's Kolari's system. I'm sorry to say $3500 is too much. It's slightly more than a third of the cost of the camera. Granted it's for the raptor as well, but jesus.

Nick,

But you can't control the amount of ND filtration wirelessly or remotely with the kippertie alternative.

True, I mentioned that earlier in the forum, which is what I believed would be the only benefit of the RED adaptor. And if they decided to make an EF or LPL version that an extra $7K. Still think it's too expensive per adaptor and more of a headache switching cartridges for most of the work I end up doing.

I couldn't really use any external ND solution especially this one which is PL oriented. I think even the internal ND in the XL cameras wouldn't allow me to use my Leica and Voigtlander M- lenses but maybe my Nikon Mount Zeiss Otus lenses or Zeiss 135mm Zeiss Apo Sonnar lens.

Is there the likelihood that a non- stormtrooper model will be cheaper?

The CVP video kinda displayed the "Over" and "Under" Comparisons a little too fast. Since we basically know that the "OVER" Results didn't really change, I decided to do the "Under" Results.

Jesus christ, I don't know what they are doing to their unders, but I definitely was not getting that bad of an image under -6 rated at 800 on the raptor.

Nick,

Who knows. Here's their Methodology.

Most of the cost of this system is the E-ND itself. Which is effectively an LCD panel in a cartridge. That is why it is much more expensive. Cartridge system means there is no chance for some mechanism to break and fuck your camera like internal built-in NDs. Internal ND mechanisms are super prone to failure especially with cameras that are in harsh conditions. This is a much much better solution. If the E-ND fails the clear passive cartridge system can always be swapped in immediately without having to remove the mount. I would imagine companies may also sell fixed NDs for this mount for manual swapping instead of electronically controlled.
Front of lens NDs are also really trivial to use and work with whether it be a matte box or screw on filters. And are almost always going to result in the highest quality image possible and the most ND options.

And we also have the great VND options from Breakthrough.

We are spoiled with options.

To perhaps lighten the doom and gloom crowd, Komodo's last Beta Firmware was April, 2023. Last month. And that typically means once all is working and/or worked out, a stable release build is on the near horizon.

The last Betas have added a lot of features as well. If anything, that is something to look forward to.

I won't tell everybody to use Beta Firmware on production shoots, but I do pretty often. Currently rollong with my Raptors now on the latest build. Otherwise, just standby until a release build comes.

DOOM. GLOOM. How dare you Phil with your reasonable opinions.
Not to mention the latest Komodo firmware build addressed nearly all the major requests people had, Auto-Jam TOD and many other things. Yes that probably should have been considered from the beginning, but Komodo was released at a very weird time on planet earth.

This is a nice improvement. For me the main thing I missed with Komodo was higher fps. I have a tendency to film a lot in slow motion. Also appreciated the improved sound. V Mount is also better for me at least.
However, very happy with our Raptor VV and our 2 Heliums, if I would upgrade something it would probably be our Heliums to Rhino to get extra fps. Or another Phantom :)
